I recently got a Fender Telecaster for my rockin', with the exception of metal (single coils and no trem is not conducive to shredding). I'm considering outfitting my Washburn X-8 with double humbuckers, a killswitch, and a Floyd Rose bridge to serve my metal needs.
I know a strat can, but I don't want to go through the trouble of changing a tele's bridge. I am going to put a neck position humbucker on it soon, though, so metal that doesn't need a trem should be playable.
First things first, though; I kinda have to get my guitar chops back. The Tele was given to me by someone who doesn't use it and knew I am currently taking theory classes (I sing), and I haven't played guitar in a couple years, so I'm pretty much starting from scratch. It's awful.
I know many players that had gone trough that process, your brain knows you can play it, but your hand won't follow suit.
Yeah, tonight is barre chords. Oh my fucking God. I have already decided to never stop playing again just so that I never have to rebuild hand strength and calluses. I'm thinking of getting a Gripmaster and some callus caps to speed the process.

Just don't overdo it, I hate seeing hopeful musicians damage their careers with serious hand injuries.
According to Jordan Rudess, the new Dream Theater album has a lot of Gothic influences, which means they got influenced by Opeth, I think DT's next record will be amazing, then again, my opinion is completely Bias since I'm a DT fanboy.
All Emperor. Well, their best black metal was probably "Anthems...," and "IX Equilibrium" is pretty BA. I recognize that "Prometheus" is a pretty significant departure from traditional black metal, but it's still really fucking good.
Anyone listen to Woe of Tyrants? They just released their second album, Kingdom of Might, and I think it's pretty cool. It sounds a lot like Colors from BTBAM.
This is too awesome to wait for a thing of the day. It must be a totd soon, so I can't give all the info now. Instead, you just get a YouTube video. It's fairly self explanatory.

Darkane - Swedish melodic death/thrash
Just saw both of these guys live with Soilwork last night, and they were both killer. Soilwork, as I expected, was not so good.
...And now, to add to the video onslaught.
And one of my favorite Ministry songs:
Actually, Cradle's early work is good, but not the best. Maybe Mayhem during the De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas period.
[Edit] Joe is the cutest old person in existence.
I think I jizzed my pants.
