Their lead singer is an Uplifted cuttlefish.
Pfft. Baleen Trisomy is a proto-forepost-arctic cetacean metal. The lead singer is a mildly retarded blue whale. It's the most brutal grunting I've ever heard.
You should check out Lightning Ivory. They're pre-fore-aft-pastpost pachydermic Victorian Metal outfit. Their vocalist is a lost Siberian Mammoth, and their drummer is a Alpha Male African Elephant. Drum solos often include fucking stampedes, with 1000db trumpeting screams.
Talking about music == dancing about architecture.
Architecture in Helsinki validates your statement.

  • Killswitch, AILD, and Devil Wears are metalcore. I Set My Friends On Fire are post-hardcore.
I dream of a day when conversations about music do not instantly become semantic arguments.

.... Okay. I still don't understand completely but I think I might be getting there. What does the "-core" mean?

    Elephantidae-core rules.

    Hence, Mastodon.
  • Mastodon is whalecore.
  • something like Killswitch Engage or As I Lay Dying would be metal
    No, those would be "shit."

OK, OK, I'm just being a dick there. Yes, those are metal bands. I've never heard of I Set My Friends on Fire, but that sounds pretty punk influenced. That stuff certainly has a place in a metal discussion.

Of course, that doesn't stop Enter Shikari from sucking. :P
I like Enter Shikari, but if you think it sucks I'm in no place to stop you, friend!
And yeah, I guess I am naming pretty bad bands.
  • Mastodon is whalecore.
I know. But their name is a species in order Proboscidea.
  • Killswitch, AILD, and Devil Wears are metalcore. I Set My Friends On Fire are post-hardcore.
How ironic, when my friends listen to that stuff while I'm around, I wanna set them on fire. :D

When would it be convenient for you to set me on fire? I'm free all week except for Wednesday.

Ugh. I'm sick of those goddamn trumpeting/stampeding breakdowns. That is so 3 months ago. Don't these people have originality any more?

My thing right now is alter-pre-aft-fore-protominimalist saurischian metal. There's only one band, and all of their recordings are cut into the hide of a live Tyrannosaurus. Their shows are pretty intense.

Please. You want to talk about protominimalism, talk about Lytic Phage. alter-pre-pre-proto-proto-fore-aft-pre-post protominimalist protodeath viral metal. Of all people, I thought you'd be into that, Pete.
  • Of all people, I thought you'd be into that, Pete.
I'm over it. Ever since I heard Ribonucleic Massacre, I've learned the superiority of proto-pre-pre-pre-pre-proto-pre-symphonic codon noise. I'm not even sure that it strictly qualifies as sound.
  • Check out Genotypic Annihilation. Proto-proto-pre-proto-proto-pre-pre-pre-pre-proto-premelodic intron sludge.
  • This is probably one of the funniest discussions of metal I have ever seen. *Two thumbs up*
  • Metal? I don't even know if they're talking about music anymore.

Oh man, that sounds pretty awesome right there.

But first, I found this band Manowar! They play something called "heavy metal." Sounds promising!
  • Metal? I don't even know if they're talking aboutmusicanymore.
Well, whatever it is, it's making me laugh reeeeeeal hard.
  • But first, I found this band Manowar! They play something called "heavy metal." Sounds promising!
Weight? As a genre descriptor? These guys are crazy!
  • Good rule of thumb - If your band name is a complete phrase and still has less words than the description of your music genre, your music probably sucks.
  • The obvious solution is to incorporate the genre description into your band name.
  • Speaking of metal, have you guys heard of Iron and Wine? Dude really puts the "folk" in post-Gutenberg melodic death folk prehypometal.

Well played, sir. Well fucking played.
  • Jesus. We finally get the metal thread going again and it's a semantic discussion about metal subgenres. I remember the good old days when we'd post YouTube videos of new metal bands. Talk about "Fail of your boo-yah."

So what albums are you guys looking forward to in 2010? I'm looking forward to Finntroll's "Nifelvind," Dark Tranquillity's "We Are the Void," and Korpiklaani's currently unnamed 2010 album.
  • I remember the good old days when we'd post YouTube videos of new metal bands.
I'm pretty sure if I tried to post videos of bands I liked I'd probably get the shit flamed out of me.

I'm looking forward to those and Devin Townsend's next releases. Also, there's going to be a new Blind Guardian album in late summer/early fall.

Listen, this is the metal thread. In here, we post things we like and get shit for it, if it's deserved. Man up and be proud of your terrible taste in music. That's what we're all about in here. Don't be some shame-ridden pussy. Tell us you like stuff, defend it if we call you out on it, and keep doing your own thing.

Definitely something to get used to in these forums, always be prepared to have every fiber of your being questioned and challenged.
