Well it won't, the only people so entitled in America are the elderly. :P
Yeah, but American cops have used similar tactics before. The 1968 DNC is a particularly dark reminder. They beat a teenage boy nearly to death that day.
And then there were riots. And then the Days of Rage.
I don't feel all that proud to be an American anymore. I just read that we want to level Espionage charges at Assange (carries 30 years, the Death Penalty, or both).
I feel like everything I liked about America is slowly being ruined. That is how I feel.
Also, that article reminds me of when Spider Jerusalem breaks the cordon to write about the Transspecies riots.
You know, I was thinking exactly the same thing. Especially when she's sitting on the lamp post, looking down on the violence.
Surely Americans aren't that apathetic about education.
A coworker of mine believe that because he doesn't have kids he shouldn't have to pay school taxes on his home. He feels that their parents should pay directly for their education like how his parents did when they sent him to private school.
After pointing out that the average family, in my area of central ny, makes 45k/year and that with an average of 2 children per family cant afford to pay the 10k/year it costs to educate the average student in the US.
His immediate response was "So? Thats not my problem!"
It took me further pointing out that if the average kid doesn't get to go to school then things like literacy goes into the toilet. Did he really want to live in an america where even one out of every ten kids couldn't read? And what would all those kids do then? They can't work until they're 16 and with both parents working that no one would be watching the kids. So they would be wandering around his neighborhood, alone, doing whatever caught their fancy, all the time.
He started to come around after I kept explaining what happens when 60% of the population fails to get a basic education.
What scares me most is his complete selfishness, lack of civic duty, and lack of thinking through the consequences of his beliefs. With the great education his parents so lovingly bestowed upon him, he were completely unable to see beyond his own front lawn.

My favorite is "Hi, I'm a freelance Gynecologist. When was your last checkup?"

There has to be a word for the feeling I feel after typing that. It must be a combination of both a happy and a sad.
I feel like everything I liked about America is slowly being ruined. That is how I feel. Yeah. Pretty bleak.

Bless you, you beautiful old crank. You have made my day. Keep fighting the good fight.
EDIT: There are no words for how much this guy is my hero right now.
I'm building a Dog Fort for my German Shepherd when I get home.
