Odin, after the Norse god of, you know, logic. Made sense to me.

I should follow the actual viking tradition and name it something like "sleep stealer" or "mind number" though lol.

  • My first machine I ever built was named Frankenputer because I asseembled it out of unwanted parts from friends and family. My current machine is simply called "The Alien" since my dad dropped $3k to buy me an Alienware.
  • I use 2 different schemes, one for my computers and one for the computers at my job (which were all built by me). My personal computers use Japanese names based around water and something physical about them. My desktop is Kuromizu (black water... the system is old enough that the negative connotation didn't exist at the time) because it has a black case, my current laptop in AoMizu (blue water) because it has a blue dell insert, my old laptop was solid silver and thus ginmizu (silver water), and my iPod touch is ekishyoumizu (liquid-crystal water). The work computers are on a hindu god theme; current systems are shiva, kali, and vishnu.

I have 3 names for my networked machines. The Man, my laptop that does grunt work that have the highest risk of viruses, The Myth, my current performance machine (with it's video card hating on me atm, sniff...), and The Legend, my old performance machine. As for names, The Myth is called Oyashiro-sama (Higurashi anyone? Don't invoke his wrath), The Man is Legato (He does anything to get the job done, Knives would be proud), and The Legend is Sadako (what? I had just watched Ringu when I named her. And had a fixation with evil women. Ok, sharing too much).

  • All my primary gear follows both the apple "i" naming trend and a... um... Vulpine tendency.

    MacBook Pro: iFox
    iPod: iKit
    iPhone: iFennec

Yeah, cliche but once I started the kick it felt like I aught to follow through, else I'd have just one thing that didn't fit with the rest.

This sounds like a job for...

    CAPTIAN OB-goddammitshortsgeton...

    CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!

Good citizen, did you know, you can rename your computer after having named it before. You can keep doing this as much as you would like. For as long as you live! Ain't it great?

The Computer is Your Friend. Changing the name of friend Computer is Treason. Treason is punishable by death.

    Have a nice day!
  • Are you a happy communist?
  • Treason is punishable by death.
Just as planned. Captain Obvious is dead, all hail Captain Obvious.
  • I named my work computer Batou, for obvious reasons.

Reformatted an old laptop drive to use to transfer backups (ESata is amazing!) and thus was born unto the world, Ursula (L:). Continuing the Kiki's Delivery Service theme.

Might soon reformat the laptop to put a clean Ubuntu install on it and name it Jiji.

  • Current hostnames

    Desktop - Danuba
    Laptop - Bora
    HTPC - Analyzer
    iPhone - Apreche's iPhone

  • Tachikoma - New Computer I built (A twin with Rym's Kusanagi)
    Ayumu - Old iBook
    NaviBaby - Old iMac
Beepo - My Droid. For a long time it was just called Droid, but Beepo is the sound in my head when I see the little green robot logo. Also, it beeps a lot and the proximity sensor is busted, so bah.
  • Computer - Yotsuba
    New Router - Hatsune Miku

I'm thinking I should rename my router to Cardbo instead.

My netbooks's name is Tachikoma and my laptop's name is Kusanagi! What a crazy random happenstance. Unlrelatedly, my phone's name is kuroneko.

    my new macbook is Unit-02
my old dell PC was Hal 9000 - maybe that's why it failed...
  • Laptop: HAL, originally Grant.

  • Also, it beeps a lot and the proximity sensor is busted, so bah.
How did you break that? You've only had it a few months.

It has had this problem since I bought it, and even though I took it to a Verizon store, they swore that they tested it and nothing was wrong. Google Droid Proximity Sensor Problem to see what I mean.
  • Devo is the name of PC. My iPod touch is Codex. My router's WiFi is named Hogwarts.
  • I forgot to mention long ago, a shitty laptop I have right now (which is my only connection to the real world internet) is called microwave. Yup, my desktop is called dishwasher and this laptop is called microwave.

Sadly, I abandoned my desktop back in Belgium where I no longer reside due to university. I will soon have 2 laptops come in though and I will have to think of names for them.

So sad, they have no names of their own, only their master's mark of ownership. Poor little darlings.
  • What you should have done is name the laptop Phone and the phone Laptop, that way you could really fuck with people.
  • Just named my new PC: "MegaZord."
My previous Powerbook G4 was named: "Peter's Totally Awesome Powerbook G4"
My current laptop is named: "Peter's Completely Wonderful Macbook Pro"
