I have exactly the same situation and same lack of being able to transport goods off my goddamned island. Is it because I haven't done "Expansion" yet?
I had the same problem. I built a bunch of buildings, and did a lot of research, then eventually the option showed up.
It could be expansion... do you have all your action points? I think that you may have to spend them to trade, or attack, or whatnot.
I've tried looking at trading with and without Action Points, so I'm betting on Expansion to solve this little problem. Now that I've finished getting my wine press, I'll have Expansion researched in about 19 hours. Faster, if I could upgrade my academy. I'll gladly pay you (in wine) Tuesday for for 50 crystal today...
If you change what you are researching and you have more research points than are needed do you lose the excess?
No, they go towards the next research in line. I canceled my Wine Press research so I could work towards expansion earlier, and the points I had gotten filled the first military thing and the first seafaring thing, and what was left after that started working towards the second seafaring thing.
If you change what you are researching and you have more research points than are needed do you lose the excess?
No, they just get moved over to the new one as if you had been researching it the whole time. Except if the number of research points you have is more then what the subject is. In which case it deducts the amount it needs to research it completely, and then you continue from there on the next subject in that line, since you instantly earned the previous subject.

Actually, this or the Diplomacy box could serve as proof of any credit contracts made. Is anyone here willing to extend credit?
At what interest rate?
If we can ship gold, I'll pay you 300 gold pieces for 200 units of marble plus 5% interest calculated from the time your ships leave with the marble to the time that my ships leave with the gold. If we can't ship gold, I'll pay 200 units of crystal for 175 units of marble with the same interest arrangement.
More for wine. My little rummy lush bastards are cryin' for more wine like the lazy little sons of whores they are. Whenever I play one of these things, I always end up hating my little bastard subjects. Work goddammit! No more wine for you today!
Raiding doesn't seem worth it. My high-level opponent sent 10 trained warriors against me, lost one, killed a couple of mine, and made off with 160 marble and 200 wood. Whoop-ti-doo. His army cost more to maintain than it would cost just to quarry/chop that. So I'm not destroyed, I will recover.
FOR ALL THOSE OUT THERE WONDERING WHY YOU CAN'T TRADE WITH EACH OTHER: It's all about range (how close you are to each other on the world map). Your range is expanded every TWO UPGRADES to your trading post. Upgrade the trading post and more people will be available to your ships.
EDIT: Hmmm. Actually, you need to research Expansion to send your ships out to far-away islands. I was wrong, although upgrading your trading post does allow you to do wider trades without Expansion.
If anyone wants wine, I need glass as so that I can continue to upgrade my Academy. I could also use some stone as so that I can upgrade my Town Hall and my Tavern, but I don't need stone as much as glass (at the moment).

That sounds fair enough. I'm fairly certain you can't trade gold outside of the range indicated by your trading post, so I'm prepared to offer 200 wine for 175 crystal or marble, with a 5% interest rate per x hours(to be determined later), to anybody who has Expansion already(as I don't have it yet).

If you can get to me, consider the deal done for 175 crystal plus 5% interest per 12 hour interval payable in crystal units and calculated from the times your ships leave your port to the time my ships leave my port.

When I get Expansion in 17.5 hours, I'd be happy to trade. However, if you're in dire need of wine at the moment, consider trading with somebody who has it already. I meant that offer to be open to anybody who had Expansion... Super Post Edit Go!
I am in need of Crystal and Marble. I will send you a like amount of Wine (+10%) once I achieve the tech to transport my goods globally (14 hours from now).
I jumped on one of the library PCs so I could build something while I await my new technology to be achieved.
Oh crap. I just went to increase my wine production and the slider bar is not working! I have no one producing wine!!!
Never mind, you can override the slider bar by typing in your number. I'm making 25 wine per hour right now.
I figured out the trick to pillaging. You want to go to the "Highscore" tab on the top of the webpage. Look at nearby towns (including on nearby islands) at get the usernames. Look up the "Generals" score for each nearby username. This tells you their military strength. Needless to say, you want to find one with a score of zero. Next, look up their overall score. Anyone with a score over 300 should have something worth pillaging.
I just sent out 2 slingers to a town with no military and an overall score of 309. I'll let people know how it goes.
The only thing I don't understand is that only 1 ship get sent on the raid. I have three ships, yet two stayed in port. Could this be because my port is still level 1?
I did read that you should not be too eager to upgrade your port. This makes raids on your own city much more attractive.

If that all makes sense.
Wow, that was worth it!
