I think we need to make a list of these "easy kill" towns so we can all take turns raiding them.
I used to play a game called 100AD and once you got to a certain rank this group of players would come out of nowhere and knock you back down so you couldn't get higher than they were.
It does but you don't actually have to be around to do it. Its not a game mean to be played for long periods of time. It's really just meant to be played a few times a day for a few minutes.
If you are grinding you are doing it wrong. This is more like the BBS games of old where you only check in a few times a day. This is not Civ where you keep hitting the "end of turn" button waiting for things to happen.
What I am still wondering is how the game ends. Is there even and end-game here?
It probably comes into its own in the late game, when conquest becomes more important. Sadly, I'm coming to the conclusion that this game is so similar to EVE Online that I'm probably better off spending time in that game, with its greater depth and complexity.
The only reason we are devoting a lot of time to it right now is because the building times in the beginning are so short. Once you get to the point where upgrading a building takes 6 hours or longer you will not be "playing" the game as often.
I'm just not quite seeing the challenge at this point. But then again, I haven't been attacked yet.
But being attacked isn't that dangerous. So you loose a few resources. There is nothing to win or gain in this game. You can't destroy cities, only drain them.
Someone awesome near where I am is selling 2392 pieces of marble at 10 gold per piece, so I don't have a problem anymore. That's very little above the 8 gold opportunity cost, so yeah. Teh awesomes.

Now I feel sad that the only other occupied island within my trading post range ALSO sells wine...
In order to occupy and take over another city you need the Governor research (under Military). That allows for occupation. It does require a standing military in the city (opposed to your colonies). Not sure if over time it "becomes" yours or not. But until then you can only pillage.
Doesn't this game involve grinding? I'm starting to wonder if it's really worth it.
10 Get goods 20 Build bigger city 30 GOTO 10
I'm starting to feel the same thing. The game is deceptive because it looks like Civilization. However, it seems like the only risk in the game is that your progress might slow, rather than actually have a chance of losing. I don't imagine I will stay interested for more than another week or so. The one advantage the game has is that the time commitment is so small, that it doesn't really matter. It's a lot more like Progress Quest than WoW.
Count me in as one of the other people aching for some Marble. If someone would send me 150 I will send them 200 Crystal Tomorrow as soon as I am able. The same offer is up for some wine.

1. Has anybody tried to occupy anybody? Also, has anybody tried to expand yet?
2. I was thinking that maybe we should concentrate our expansions in one area, if we do want to try to take over the server. There's a ton of unoccupied islands over in my area, and it might be a good idea to concentrate in one area so we can defend each other once this alliance gets going. On the other hand, maybe we want to break into smaller groups so that we can more effectively strike all over the map.
3. What are we wanting to call our alliance? Who's wanting to take what positions?
EDIT: Two more things. If anybody is willing to send me 150 Marble or Crystal, I can send you 200 Wine in about 9 hours.
Lastly, there's an active guy on an island near me that has a Gold Score of 152,945, but he has no Military. Feel free to go after a cash cow: wolf pack at Iryos[99:60]
Like I said, I've got plenty of marble I'd love to get rid of. I would send you marble, but I'm apparently too far away.
Are we going to set up "trade networks"? We could send goods across the world by sending them to specific people who likewise send the goods on their merry way. I think this would open up our empire.

You're pretty close to me. I could do for some marble, and I'll trade an equal amount of crystal for it.

I desperately need Marble.

4. Not a question, but everybody should see this.

Whatever you send me in Marble I will return in Wine in about 8 hours. (heading to bed)

Edit: never mind.
This game is a bit fun. ^_^
Any one needs to trade and such.
