Got my RIT housing assignment! I am in Helen Fish Hall A. Any current/former RIT students know if that's any good?
Oh mans, I gotta find out. I just have no idea where it is on the RIT website. Neither did I get it as an email. If it's by mail it won't arrive for a long time.
myhousing.rit.edu Find the housing contract and look under confirmation - should be there.

As for me, I'm on the 5th floor of Nathanial Rochester Hall. Anything I should know?
All it says is my name and what term the housing contract is for. Apparently I'll also get an email with contact info for my roommate. My application is completed, I don't know why I still don't have housing info.
Fish was one of the first to get re-done when I was there. Dunno what it's like now. My only point of advice: Call/speak with your room mate and coordinate the bringing of extra stuff. Dorm space is sort of limited, so if you both bring things like sizeable televisions it can eat up valuable realestate in the room.

I applied to be roommates with a friend of mine from high school, and it went through, so don't worry, we've already got some of this planned out, like I bring the T.V. and he brings some game systems. We still have more things to go through, but yeah.

Watch out. Rooming with a friend from pre-university makes it really easy to fall into a rut, not meet as many new people, and otherwise reduce the total value of the college experience. Be careful, and don't let yourself fall into any patterns of socialization you retained from high school.

Trust me, that is not the plan in the slightest. Both of us are looking forward to college to meet new people. I'm going to join clubs, and try and stay out of my dorm room during parts of the day if I can help it. Rooming with him is mostly just to avoid dealing with some douche who drinks/smokes, primarily because I've seen other students who put don't smoke on their rooming profile, and put won't live with a smoker, and got a smoker for a roommate. I just trust this kid to not smoke/drink/masturbate/have sex in our room, or at least not do the last two without telling me so I know to leave.
  • Sounds like you've got a plan, then, so no worries. ^_~
  • I got on Law Review with my contest submission that wasn't even finished (I did not finish putting the Footnotes in short form)... that I wrote in one day. AWESOME.
  • You haz the awesomez!

    That's where I lived roughly.

You guys lucked out from what I remember of Fish C was it was a hell hole filled with villainy and vice. Notable people coming from that dorm was Mr. Macross (and Luke) I'm pretty sure.
  • I never talked to anyone on my floor in Fish, or really even in the building. I probably said no more than ten words to my roommate in the time I lived there: the dorm room was for sleeping, masturbating, playing Tribes 2, and playing Counterstrike. There was no other reason to ever be in there.

Oh mans. Two years ago, NRH5 was the most happening place in all of Happeningsville. But it's your basic freshman floor, so it'll change every year. Hope you get some good people!
  • I'm now an uncle, hopefully I'll be able to plant the seed of geekery on this one. ^~^

The above has been ordered. Boo-yah!
  • Cheese, wine and Counter Strike. I am one classy gentleman.

I'm wearing carpet slippers and a smoking jacket. Your move.
  • Camembert anyone?
  • Camembert anyone?
    There are few better.
  • If anybody is familiar with Seattle University, I got assigned to Bellarmine Hall in the Learning Community Hurtado (i.e. social justice)! For those who aren't, Bellarmine Hall is the one with the nice bathrooms.
  • New phone, hell yeah. ^~^
  • Making croissants from scratch. The puff pastry was the most difficult part--rolling rock-solid chilled butter into dough 3 times over. This is as incredibly painful as it is rewarding.

I'm wearing a chinese silk robe, while sitting on a sun-lounge in my front yard, smoking a foot-long churchwarden pipe, and drinking earl grey. Checkmate.

  • After a month and a half of bad weather, I finally got to see Jupiter today along with it's Galilean Moons and one of the red bands!

This is the best shot I could get, you can see the 4 moons but the band is lost in the picture
  • My pains au chocolat turned out delicious, and I found out that I look REALLY good with a bandanna folding back all my hair.
  • Yoshihiro Tatsumi's A Drifting Life wins two Eisners.

  • Just got back from jamming with my new band for the third time this week. This is working out very well.
