That scene is bothersome to males as well. Believe you me, it is bothersome to males. That was probably the only moment in the entire move that actually made my physically cringe and look away from the screen.
Wait, that bothers you?
John Lasseter.
I scrolled and got about halfway down that picture, with only the top of a leaf-print something, the hair, glasses, and giving a thumbs up, so I guessed Mrs Doubtfire at first. Maybe Next year? I'll cross-dress cosplay too, if I must.
The last that was said in the Wave Geo started (I'm moving the conversation back here cus that wave's kinda dead) was that I was going to be free thursday night for some gaming, and probably most of the time during the con. WE could meet up at the BCC or at the hotel my friends and I are staying at (the Treamont), and get badges/food/find a place to play a game.
Because no one is really making any plans for when the con is going on, any one up for a meet up on Friday (I'm thinking around 1:00) or Saturday (maybe 2 or 3) at the Otakon Cafe?
We're at our hotel now. If anyone wants to hang out, get at me here or on twitter or something. I'm only going to be checking @replies, so make sure you post @neito.
Were we going, this is about when we'd check into the Renaissance hotel and then dick around in the Inner Harbor for a while. Head over toward the Power Plant club area if you want lunch (stay away from the Five Guys).
I'm hoping that the "Barcode Only" line will move quickly so we don't have to wait in the line all freaking night, but being eternally pessimistic about this sort of thing, I know it's going to fail.

If failed when AB fist tried it right? Maybe first time is never a charm.

It's tricky. The barcodes save time per person, but the sheer number of people in line mitigates the worth of the savings, especially if the majority have their barcodes. I recall not that many years ago people choosing NOT to pre-register for Otakon because the non-prereg lines at cons were shorter than the prereg ones. This was around 2003.
Yeah, me too. It's because it's easier to remember the good times. Try to think about waiting in line for hours, in a thunderstorm, and it's wicked hot out.
As am I. Otakon was always a good time. And we (as GeekNights) were still planning on going long after most of the crew had bailed. ;^)
Unless they mail the badges and up the ante on their panel content, I don't foresee many of the FRC ever returning to Otakon. At most, it'll be us, you, and three or four other people.

Also getting denied entry to the restaurants by the Power Plant, the overexpensive hotels (Otakon is by far our most expensive con hotel-wise), the unnavigable halls, the crushing traffic out on Sunday, and the crap shoot that is the programming.
Most of the fun I've had at Otakon over the years came from the people I attended with and, secondarily, running panels. The crew has bailed on Otakon, which limits its appeal in the long run in lieu of better programming. The fact that they honestly wanted Iron Artist over Super Art Fight is testament to the latter.

I never had those issues, I would come late on Thursday get in line after dark and not have trouble (the last 2 or 3 years) and before that I would get in without stepping into the line because I was awesome ;-p

Me either. I skipped the line via shenanigans every year. ^_~

I think they chose Iron Artist for two reasons.
One is that Iron Artist has been to Otakon many times. They know them. Otakon attendees know them. They've always been reliable and popular. Therefore they stick with it.
The second is that they had no familiarity with SAF. They obviously had never seen SAF in action, nor did they understand the difference between SAF and IA. Based on the panel submissions, they saw that they were largely redundant, so they picked the one they had been with all along.
This, I think, is one of the biggest problems with Otakon. The staff don't seem to go to other conventions all that much. Those that do, sit at an Otakon booth in the dealer's room. Those that do go to other cons, must not be scouting out the programming. They probably just go to the masquerades and such, and they feel content that Otakon's is bigger and better.

Of course, we don't know. Despite us being on the Otakon panels staff, they told us nothing, asked nothing of us, and accepted no input into any decisions that would be made. We'd might as well not have been there for all anyone wanted us to help.
They don't let anyone into the area with large bags, white t-shirts, or various other assorted conditionals. It's nominally to keep gangs and drugs out. The people staffing the checkpoint have, every year, been intolerable douches. Once the checkpoints go up, steer clear of that whole district.
Me too. I'd been going on and off since Lisa first took me in 2000. I'll try to focus on all the negative memories and whatnot too, that seems to be a cool thing.

Aaaah.
Also, getting hit on and harassed by random strangers as a naive 17 year old, traveling through ghetto Baltimore from our affordable hotel to the convention center.

Our first year, we stayed well inside the bad area. We had like eleven people crammed into that room. Had Nuri not fed me, I may have died.

I'm not attending Otakon because I'm too broke for conventions, but a Thursday night meet-up or some kind of other thing would be fun.
Let us know how the reg line is. I hear tell that
