Happily for ConnectiCon, our tracking system will basically obviate any dependencies that fan/professional panels will have on guest panels. But even then, I can't imagine the guest panels alone are the cause of the severe schedule delays for Otakon this year. The turnover of the department head doesn't really excuse it either, since that happened many months ago, and no one seemed interested in telling the rest of the department at the time, so it couldn't have been that big of a deal. What could possible have delayed it this long?
There's also the fact that they don't start planning the next Otakon until months after Otakon ends. They should start the day after Otakon. You know Khoo has that clock which is always counting down to PAX. You know he fucking resets that shit on Monday. And even though Monday after PAX is Labor day, you know he's in the office.

I think resetting the PAX clock could be done A. with simple automation and B. a bit easier then planning the convention :-p
  • Wow. Considering there's still no public schedule (I have to assume they have one done internally), we couldn't have accepted our two confirmations and performed even if we'd waited. I really hope they don't have any last-minute bails as people with confirmed panels see that they're up against the COSplay, or too early on Friday, or too late on Sunday, or opposite one of the Hetalia panels.

They have sent out confirmations to panels already right? with times and rooms and such?

Here's a tweet from Jim Vowles at 1AM this morning.
schedule is ready. Panelists should get emails tomorrow, I think, but that's not my dept.

Some acceptances have been sent, no times or rooms.

They sent out confirmations, but no times or rooms or anything. So, in our case, we knew that they expected us to run two panels, but had no idea where or when. Aaron had hinted "just before or after peak times," but we had nothing else to go on, and it doesn't seem that other panelists had even a hint.
  • You know what's going to be loltastic? Whoever gets the early Friday panel and has to wait in line!

They usually let those people cut.

Nice, that's truely fail, I figured this was a case where they had sent out of room numbers and times but had not finalized a public schedule so they could do some last minute changes. But it seems far worse then that.

    All panelists should cut.

Oh, if we'd personally known our times, or even a window, I'd still be going to Otakon to run the panels (possibly with Daryl if Scott had bailed). The schedule wasn't available to attendees, panelists, or staff. It's one of the few dealbreakers we have for Otakon, and I wish we could have run the panels they confirmed.

I had a panel at like noon on Friday last year and they let me in. If you try, you can usually cut.
  • If you put in for a panel and it got waitlisted, you probably just got an email from Aaron Clark asking you to email him back with the names of the panels you're still interested in running. Despite all that's happened, we shot back an email for Craziest Mecha Moments. It's the freaking zombie panel; it'll never die.
  • Whelp. I think I've bailed on Otakon this year. I hope they get their act together in the future, because I'd like to go eventually.

I shot back a email about The Yaoi-ing Game 2.2. I only did it because it was half done.

I emailed him about a Brief History of Animation right after I got the email. Hopefully I'll get in.
@Viga: They didn't accept your Yaoi-ing Game? After the turnout you had last year?

When you have a new boss of panels they are the one say what goes. Sigh... Here's hoping!
  • With Yosho out, I'm down one person again on my room. Normally I wouldn't come back asking about this again so late, but now the room offer's changed. I am not entirely sure how I did it, but I cut down the cost per person by just over half (it has to do with booking a private room rather than separate beds, I think). So, if you would like to go to Otakon with pretty decent accommodations costing about $85/person (total, not per night), reply, whisper, or e-mail me please!
  • Panels are now full, and I still haven't gotten in. I have a dissapoint.
  • I'm told we have a time.

Embracing your robot overlords is 6 PM on Friday
Anime one-night stands is midnight Friday (they're letting us start a pane this late?)
and Uncle Yo's stand up in 8:30 pm Saturday.
  • I will be seeing Uncle Yo for sure.

Convention Center doesn't close until 2 AM. That's when they kick everyone out onto the street.

  • Due to the fact that I show a recurring pattern by which I "haven't executed good judgment," I do not get to run any panels at this year's Otakon.
I know we knew Daryl wasn't running any panels this year, but now we know the "reason".

That's complete and utter bullshit. Daryl, Mike Toole, and Geralds' content were some of the only worthwhile things I saw at Otakon last year. My perspective of shonen manga is now radically different thanks to them (referencing the excellent "Neo-Shonen" panel he did last year). I would love to see what Otakon's official reasoning was, down to the very last letter.

Well, Otakon is just retarded. Anime's Craziest Deaths got like, a couple small complaints, but nothing major. If they brought that back as an 18+ event, people would attend it like crazy and it would draw the same crowd it did last year. Honestly...

I knew this, because I heard about it from the guys, the fact that Otakon Staff said Daryl was a "bad influence" and stuff like that. It pissed me off royally. The anime world order contains three of the most knowledgeable anime fans around, and not only that, they are totally entertaining to boot. WTF, Otakon.

They're fucking morons who most likely have not, cannot, and/or will not consider anime either an art form or medium of expression.
  • ...says the con who shows ultra-violent movies and has Hentai panels? I wish I could be surprised.
  • But Daryl Surat showed his ultra-violent panel before 18+, and only told them in his panel submission that there was the possibility that his content was 18+. I mean, how could the Otakon staff be expected to read his panel submission?
    *Grumble, grumble.*
  • If I wasn't already pretty busy I'd think about working to become panel head of Otakon, but I wouldn't turn it down :-p
