  • People on Facebook are threatening to call my employer and tell them I'm for socialized healthcare. LOL.
  • In four years you might not have a right to vote anymore. You might be dead.
Nah, that won't happen; I'm sure he'll be voting Democrat after he's dead.
    That made my day.

And ROE, doesn't sound much different from the last year or two.

    Still listening to Limbaugh, huh?

  • Yeah and I suppose he's gonna color my opinion till I die or he's off the air.

Or, like one of my other friends, you end up really insulting someone you care about or realize that listening to him is just making you angry all the time. It's interesting, actually, this dude was a pretty staunch Republican until he had to go to anger management therapy and the therapist told him to stop listening to Limbaugh. Now he's a calm, cool dude.

Then you're an idiot. He's a confessed drug addict who will say absolutely any inflammatory thing for ratings. He doesn't even believe in the things he says on the air himself.

You're know what's fun? Yelling at the one person on the forums who manages to portray a sizable section of American political thought because you think insulting him is somehow productive.

    You're right, it sure is.

Sorry, I've been arguing with mouthbreathers on facebook all morning. I'm more jaded than usual.

Still, listening to Limbaugh is pretty indefensible. He's just a font of irrational, dishonest hate and bile. Not one redeeming quality.

Calling the act of paying any mind to that crap political "thought" is stretching things.

Gotta take a step back sometimes and remember that you're talking to real people, not just faceless avatars. It might be time to close out facebook for a few minutes and get some water or lunch or something, if you're getting more jaded and usual.

I definitely understand the frustration, and I agree that Limbaugh is pretty terrible, but if that's who Jack chooses to listen to and he understands how most of the stuff he says is simply incorrect, then it's his choice. All arguing is going to do is make him feel more entrenched because he seems like the sort of person who doesn't like other people telling him what to do.

Regardless of what Limbaugh says, his words do make up people's minds on the issues. That makes it a political thought. An indefensible one, for sure, but it's a thought.

If you want something to argue, take a look at this and pick it apart. It will probably be more effective:

I have no doubt about that, you seem like a pretty big jerk.

Regardless, take a look at the Rush transcript and tell me that doesn't pretty much sum up a lot of political thought here in the US. It's a lot of gut reactions and things that sound good, but blindingly simplified.

  • I'm just frank. You could call that being a jerk I guess. It doesn't bother me if you do, because I'm a jerk. :-)

The thing about Rush is that he's totally disingenuous. 90% of the time, he knows that he's on the air spouting complete and utter bullshit, and he's fine with it because it makes him money.

I dunno about Rush, he might actually believe what he says. He does say it with an incredible amount of conviction. Now, I don't think O'Reilly believes what he says. O'Reilly is a man who is aware of his medium. He said during the debate with Jon Stewart that the problem with politics is that you can make a LOT of money off of getting people angry. That was a very revealing comment.

My problem with Rush's tangents is simply that he throws so many oversimplifications and generalizations that it's nearly impossible to actually disprove them. There is just SO MUCH misinformation.

I wonder, is there actual content in the third-party debates that seem to be going on?

This could be of interest, or at least entertaining.

  • That feel when your candidate isn't even in the 3d party debate.

Also, I feel somewhat ashamed for not being able to instantly realise that something was amiss with Romney's comment that Syria is Iran's "route to the sea". This sums things up nicely, I think.

I have to admit, Romney is pretty good at faking expertise, or, more generally, projecting the image he wants to project. Of course, he gets caught on it a lot, but he gives off an air that really does seem to work on people who don't know any better. As long as he never says anything of real substance it's hard for him to get into any real trouble.

I just want this election over with, but something tells me some state will botch things up and we'll have to wait longer.
Already happening in Ohio. With both candidates making multiple visits here there will be something that goes wrong. Also that early voting stunt they tried to pull a few months ago.

  • And the ownership of voting machines conflict of interest. And the well established precedent for fighting the results out in court, now. It's going to be a mess if it's close. I'm still holding onto the hope that Romney gets buried.
  • Well, I watched that third-party debate. I'll say this - if you want to "throw your vote away" on someone, Rocky Anderson looks like a solid choice.

Fuck... I printed 30,000 of these:

  • Had someone on facebook threaten to call my employer to tell them about my dangerous Socialist views. So, that was fun. He posted the public number to our HR department in the thread, which of course also includes my full real name.

I'm not especially worried about it, but I do know that the correct way to respond to this sort of thing is not always the way that this sort of thing is responded to, so I'm moderately interested in the outcome.
  • Why are you friends with this person?
  • I'm not. I had one error in my Facebook profile privacy settings in that my employer was set to Public. It's fixed now.
  • heh, my employer would be like "so what?"
  • Any functional employer would be. Mine is... odd.
  • Yeah, mine wouldn't care. Regardless, I secure everything on my Facebook profile and only share political statuses with a hand-picked group of friends because the general public basically are a bunch of dicks.
  • I got it in my head that I should introduce facts to some local news stations' comment feeds.

    I know, I know.
  • I don't think you were around when I had my interesting experience with socialism, but about a year ago one of my relatives decided to never speak to me again because I was ruining the country with my socialist beliefs. He still doesn't talk to me or my wife. It's incredibly awkward.

I've learned my lesson though, I tend to keep quiet about politics in mixed company down here in Fox News land.

One tough looking guy with a shaved head and a Facebook Timeline prominently displaying his jet ski and ATV told me to "come on down to the library at Wesleyan Unviersity" and debate him in person. I got a genuine laugh.

Oh, I'm sure I'm out of my grandparents' will because I'm a dirty Leftist and also because I don't do any counter-PR on the backstabbing my cousin and aunt are giving me in their ears on a daily basis. Family sucks.
