Watching Johnny Mnemonic, man the acting is corny. I love the story and the premise but I wish anyone in this movie could deliver a line, even just one.
It's cyberpunk movie with Keanu Reeves in it and Ice-T before Ice-T became a decent actor. What did you expect?
I heard it was a "You must leave your brain at the door" type movie. Can't do that...not after Transformers 2. >_>
Yea, Transformers 1 was a leave your brain at the door movie. Transformers 2 was leave your taste at the door...That said if you just changed about 3 major things in the second movie it would have been pretty good..
I just saw Paul. I was pleasantly surprised, considering the bad press it's been getting -- but I can't help thinking some of the negative word-of-mouth has been due to the atheist message (which I cheered for).
I saw it with my wife and brother- and sister-in-law. They are not nerds. They did not get the Star Wars references; the Indiana Jones references; the Back to the Future references; the Star Trek references; the Close Encounters references; etc.
They didn't know what Mac and Me was.
They certainly did not understand the reference to Lorenzo's Oil.

I saw ads for it in the subway, and I think I may have seen a trailer before Tron or something. Looked to me like a lowbrow drunken comedy, guess there's more going on? Maybe I'll take a peek when its eventually on Netflix.

I know all those things...

but I had to look up both of those on the Google/IMDB.
My friends and I are starting up a biweekly film festival night. Tonight we watched Secret of Kells and Princess Mononoke. Secret of Kells was very enjoyable, and I didn't know anything about the Book of Kells. Definitely worth watching and it's on Netflix Streaming.
Can you pitch it to us? I've only ever heard people say it's good, but never say why.
How about a trailer?
Basic story. Kid lives with a bunch of monks in the woods. His father is only concerned with building a wall to defend against vikings, and is very grumpy and bleh. Then a fun awesome old monk comes to town and opens up the kid's eyes to a world of magic and awesome, but also danger. The animation is incredible.
It's basically a fairy tale about the creation of the Book of Kells. If you're familiar with illuminated texts and enjoy the flat cartoon-network/Geneddy Tartovesky style, it's particularly entertaining. It's a great watch regardless, and different from a lot of animated movies both in style and presentation.

Just saw Valhalla Rising. Its about a bunch of Christian viking who go to reconquer the Holy Lands but end up in Hell instead. It's extremely slow burning but the mood is pretty cool and it is not nearly as action packed as the trailer makes it look. The sound track is pretty amazing as well.
It's one of those movies where, at the end, you're not sure what happened but you're pretty sure you enjoyed it.
I went to the Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, VA for a Midnight Screening of a Pulp Fiction Quote-Along. God damn, it was so much fun. Just the way the audience got into it and the quotes that would appear on the screen. Not enough stuff came on the screen, but it provided enough entertainment. I forgot how much I love that movie and some of that epic dialogue, mostly from parts 6 and 7.
Only downside? Alamo serves Beer/Food with their movie. So me and my brother got a pitcher of beer, two personal-sized pizzas, a Big Kahuna Burger w/Sprite, 5 Dollar Milkshake and the Tip was 60 dollars. >_<
I thought Sucker Punch was going to be fun and exciting but instead the action was dull and I felt like I was committing some kind of sex crime by watching it. It takes itself SUPER SERIAL all the time and it seems like it was written for a really bad exploitative moe anime (somewhere between Queens Blade and Elfin Lied).
You can say what you like about the Charlies Angels movies but at least the actors looked like they were having a good time. The girls they cast for Sucker Punch always looked either baffled, awkward or sad and since Zack Snyder loves him some slo mo action you got a really good look at their sad, awkward baffledness.
Face/Off is a wonderful Nicolas Cage movie with special guest star John Travolta.
You know, that movie was stupid. Really stupid. But, I will say openly that I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's hard to not appreciate the gunfight with the slow-motion doves. It's hard not to appreciate ANY gunfight with slow-motion doves.

I used one of the tracks from the soundtrack in a show I did once, and I still listen to the full soundtrack album now and then. Pity I can't remember anything special from the movie.
Uhhhhhhh...are you saying you actually enjoyed it?
You know, when I watched Battlefield Earth, it was about a year after it came out. I was really big into movies and had read hundreds of reviews and statements of it being the worst movie ever. It wasn't. So in a way I enjoyed it because I went in expecting the worst movie ever and came out thinking it was not the worst movie ever, that was "Doom Generation" if course.
I have seen far worse movies than Battlefield Earth. That does not mean I enjoyed it. I'm just saying -- Going Overboard took my innocence several years prior.

Also, I keep seeing reviews of the movie that say that it is a very boring experience. Did we watch the same movie?

It's not going to be the last time. Apparently it's only based on the first half of the book too... maybe someday we could get a sequel.
