Tip for felting: swatch. Always swatch, wash, and dry. You don't want to knit the whole thing only to find out that the yarn you used doesn't felt well!
A bunch of people on Rav were drooling over the hat and fingerless gloves she wore, but I was more distracted by her hoodie sweater that had a cable for a button band. Genius!

Yes, I was looking at that too. It is very cute. However, sweaters are a task I won't take on anytime soon. But the hat and fingerless gloves were pretty awesome.
I find myself noticing more and more knitted items on tv/movies and wanting know how it was made or the pattern for it, or if I can figure it out on my own.
EDIT: BTW Nuri, is that red yarn I bought from you, good for felting?
Well, it's not superwash, but since it is superfine merino, I would test it first. Sometimes the really fine fibers like cashmere don't want to felt. I'd knit a very loose 4"x4" swatch and throw it in with your next load of laundry to see how it behaves. If it's not a good felter, you can always try some Cascade 220.

KK will do. I do want to make that hat in the same color as wel. Off to the yarn store!
YAY! ...I'm not allowed to buy anything new until I use a bunch of my stuff. I haz been a bad Nuri and went on a shopping spree this semester. -_-;
Hehe, same here. I actually have to wait until Friday to buy yarn. I wish I could buy some now, but I have your yarn coming in, so I will make myself another red pop hat. Probably make Jeremy a hat with the blue yarn, finish up his long cat scarf, and work on my amigurumi.
At the moment it is just normal things, mainly scarves because they are quick, easy, and are the type of handmade present that my family will actually use. So that's what they are all getting this year because I am so broke right now.
But as soon as Christmas is over I'm definitely going to start playing around with Amigurumi. I have a pattern for a blimp in my Ravelry queue that I want to make for this same friend who got the steampunk burp cloths.
Hi! My Rav name is CandyCornStudios, in case you are wondering why that person added you.
I did a bunch of scarves for my siblings a few years back. It's hard for me to keep up with making things for everyone every year though... I have 5 younger siblings and 4 parents without even looking past immediate family. As a student, sometimes it's easier to just show up with hugs and cook a big meal for everybody. I feel awkward giving presents only to some of the kids and not others.
Are you guys monogamous crafters, or do you like to have multiple projects going on at once?
Yeah, I definitely always have at least three projects going. Once I hit 75% done I’ve hit the point where I just don’t even want to look at it anymore. I just want it magically done. Then I start another project or two and slowly make myself get through that last 25% of the previous project. It’s a bad habit.

Yeaaaaaah. Ditto. Originally, I learned how to crochet only to get rid of the leftover yarn that I had from some old costumes and had no more use for. However lately, I’ve just gone a little crazy and the stash is getting out of control again.

Just remember, none of it gets to live in the living room.
Maybe not in YOUR living room. It's fine in mine. Plus, it keeps me from hurting myself when I trip over something if I fall on yarn or fiber. It's like insurance! Bwahahahaha.
...right now our apartment is a terrible mess. T_T Circumstances conspired against us. We will attempt to restore some order before Thanksgiving.

Hahaha, I am crocheting strips for a scrap blanket with samples and leftovers. I'm sure this thing will be ugly as sin; so many different colors, different weights of yarn, and different fibers going into it definitely present an aesthetic challenge. But it will be warm.

That's what I'm thinking of doing, but making a scarf.
This was a spur of the moment project because I totally forgot about The Scott Make-the-best-Cornucopia quasi-contest.
(Scott, I'll mail this to you eventually...)
I present to you: Boo-copia-gurumi!
I made a few mistakes on the Boo, but it was my first time making it. I have a few challenges with amigurumi, but in good time and practice, I'll conquer that.
You have won the contest! I doubt any other superior entry will appear before Thursday. You have regained the title of "Best GeekNights Listener" from Chase Gordon. He had a good start, but did nothing to maintain.
Argh, my kingdom for local stores to carry a wider variety of yarn/needles.
I know I can order stuff online, but I want it NOW!
As for needles go, at first I enjoyed using Clover bamboo needles, but now I prefer metallic needles. It probably depends on the yarn, but most of the projects I've been working on, it just feels better on metallic needles.
I've also been looking at just shelling out the money and buying a interchangeable circular needle set, but I can never seem to find a set that has 16" cable size available. Most hats are made with 16" circular needles and it boggles my mind that it's not available. I know you can just use DPNs in the end, but I prefer to use circular as long as possible.
I know I can order stuff online, but I want it NOW!
Then you should have bought it online last week!
I know, but it's cool. I did find a local store that carries what I need for now. I just like going to yarn stores to touch the pretty colored soft yarn and imagine how many wonderful things I could make with it.

Quit your job and get a yarn job instead. Knitting instructor. Craft store owner.
I spent most of the holiday weekend attempting to figure out the Hermione hat. I bought more yarn and needles, and after many attempts, I feel I didn't get it. Plus it frustrated me so much because I wasn't getting anything done that I started a new project.
I'll make one more attempt on the Hermione hat this week, after that I need to get other projects started and completed.
Ro, the reason the interchangeables aren't available in 16" length is that the needle tips are too long. The 16 fixed needles have shorter tips, which allows a longer cable length so it's flexible enough to work with. Likewise, the needle sizes generally only go down to size 4 or so because after that the tips are too small to accommodate the cable screw, so any smaller sizes for socks and the like are generally sold in fixed lengths.
I'm a fan of the KP harmony interchangeables, and I have a few of the small needles fixed circulars. They are smoother than bamboo, but not as slippery as metal. I just use magic loop for hats if I really wanna make them. I like to have more cable to work with rather than less so I don't have to really stress my hands.
Yeah, I figured as much. I just really think it would be cool.
I'll have to look into getting those KP Harmony needles. They look so loverly everytime I get a new Knit Picks catalog. It's like a porno mag for knitters.
Also a shirt from Threadless that I will more than likely buy because it has knitting in it, it's cute, and I don't own any purple tshirts.
It would be awesome to have a yarn/craft store and a gaming store next to eachother. I would never leave.
Same store. Also with food.
I actually ran into a store that had a lot of crafty stuff as well as gaming, comics, etc. while on travel in Charleston, SC. It's called The Green Dragon and was in North Charleston. Didn't have food, but otherwise was pretty damn awesome.

This basically looks like my red pop hat I made a few posts above, but felted. A simple k2tog, yo pattern throughout the entire hat.
There is a pattern on Ravelry, but it isn't quite the same.
I think I will try the pop hat pattern and then felt it. This will be my first time felting and I will have to read up more on it.

The box is tucked in a cornucopia.

Remember how you told me you had issues with your amigurumi and the stitches having too much space because of the decreases?
MAGIC!
I also heard if you use a smaller needle when decreasing it might help as well. I'm going to test this out and let you know how it goes.
