  • Weird crab encounter
Was it a coconut crab? I did some searching, and that's the only crab I came across that can be found in the Virgin Islands and fits the description (to some extent).

AAAAH FUCK THOSE ARE HUGE. But no, the crab stood and walked more like a strider from HL2. The fact that several googling attempts hasn't turned up anything worries me although there's not much I can look up other than "fucking prehistoric looking crab".
  • Okay, I've done a bit more digging and I came up with something that might be it: a tailless whip scorpion. It's not a crab, but it could be mistaken for one. Here's another picture that shows its size in comparison to a human.
  • Is that a hobo trap of some sort?
If I knew I would have posted. It's just...
  • Maybe it's some sort of homeless symbol?
  • Yesterday I heard a parody of Folsom Prison Blues involving the Cookie Monster singing "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die". It's at the very end of this podcast episode.

Like I said, it looks more like these things:

Although not so proportionally tall. Anyway, I haven't found out what it is in 2 years, I doubt I'll ever find out.

Perhaps it's something like the arrowhead spider crab? Is it at least similarly spindly? If it is, then you most likely saw some tropical species of spider crab.

All these crabs have their legs splayed to their side. The one I saw stood quite tall. It annoys me so much because I've never seen anything like it. I think it was also not spindly like the arrowhead spider crab. Look at the strider pic, remove the top half of the legs, remove the giant penis laser beam shooting thing, and add more legs. That's what I saw and it looked bizarre. Maybe the nighttime accentuated its weirdness, I don't know. It's just bothering me that I'm probably never going to find out what I saw because it was one weird looking creature. It has to be a tropical crab of some sort. Oh yeah, it was grey.

  • Well, yes, crab legs are almost always splayed out to the side. They sort of have to be. Some species can move the around to stand taller.

Are you sure it was a crab at all?

Telltale Games to make BTTF episodic games. This could be the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. However, what gives me hope and puts a few of my fears to rest about this, is that Bob Gale (one of the two masterminds behind the series) is working with the developers on the plot for this. Let's see where this goes.

I don't know anymore, my memory may have been clouded with the years that have passed. My dad may have had pictures of this thing though, but I believe it was the focusing light of the camera that scared it away. Shit, I'm starting to sound like those people that report sightings of bigfoot or something.
  • I actually did try looking up crab cryptids to see if there were other reported sightings of a crab like this, but Google seems to associate "cryptid" with "ghost" so I kept getting results about ghost crabs. And searching "crab cryptozoology" doesn't turn up much besides crazy stories about giant enemy crabs.

I hope we can figure out what this thing was. Think your dad might actually have a picture of it, or was it scared away?

Given Telltale's history, it's probably gonna be okay. If there's good writing, it will be really fun, otherwise, it'll just be a boring clicky adventure.

Yeah, they've got good credentials which is reassuring, but I still can't help but be rather wary about it because of what happens when franchises are revived 20 years later.

You know America experienced a tragedy when someone goes out of their way to create a drinking game about it.

I'm taking a similar class, but we can test out of it. My teacher told us that she hasn't seen anyone get higher than a B on the test. I'll take the easy A, thank you very much.

Part of the problem is that the class also covers Microsoft Access, which I hadn't even heard of prior to starting the class.

Access is Microsoft's database system. Don't worry about it; If it's like the comp100 class here, they'll just gloss over it.

  • yup, i can definitely use that class to boost my GPA. yeah my teacher was trying to teach the class how to use hot-keys and told everyone that Ctrl+P was how to paste selected items. I kept my mouth shut and watched as about 6 blank documents got printed. It was very funny X^D

Funnily enough, some people are still dumb when they get out, they just think they're not, because they've got a bit of paper that tells them they're apparently good at something.
