Fuck no! They've shown they can't make a good game, except when they listen and begrudgingly give people a sonic game that it's actually possible for human beings to like - IE, Sonic Generations, the only one of the last twenty-three that was worth a think streak of pelican piss. And really, still wasn't that great - it was good, but never came close to matching, say, Sonic and Knuckles or Sonic CD.
Every time they do accidentally make a good thing, they go "Oh fuck, What did we do?" and go fucking mental, then go and do something completely different that everyone except for the real maniacs hate. Ie, everything after Sonic & Knuckles that isn't Sonic Generations.
And it's not like they haven't been given the chance, they've tried everything. There's been at least one if not two sonic games every year since 1991. They've done everything from Cart racing to Educational games. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a thing that exists, and I don't just mean in Ivo Robotnik's pants. There is such a thing as Sonic's Casino Poker.
So nah, man, it's just gotta stop. I grew up with sonic, and I'm as sad to see it go as the next guy, but it's time to take the hedgehog to go see what's out behind the woodshed, as it were. Let the poor bastard rest.
Don't forget Sonic Spinball. That was terribad. It managed to comingle the videogame universe with the archie comics universe. Nooo...
Sonic 1-3+K were good. Sonic CD was good. 3D Blast, Chaos, Chaotix, and Sonic Adventure were shit. Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure were Ehhh... okay. Sonic 4? Pure and utter shit. Sonic Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Generations were great. Colors was okay. Sonic 2006, Unleashed, all of the storybook series are all pretty shit, 2006 being the shit that floats a bit higher.
The racing games were alright. Sonic R gave us really fun music with it, and the Riders series is okay. I don't think the All Stars Racing series really counts as a Sonic game since majority of the characters in it are non-Sonic properties, but those are still fun games.
And, even though I am mentioning it here, we shall never speak of Sonic Shuffle.
I want them to make more Sonic games, but I think they need to hand it over to another studio. Maybe the Super Meat Boy guys.
Jim Sterling made an excellent point on his guest appearance on Bombing the AM. They had a good thing in Sonic Generations and then did not continue to iterate on that idea. They chose to break away from their engine that they built for Sonic games and use Crytek and a new American studio to start from scratch. They can't seem to make up their mind as to what they want a Sonic game to be so they keep throwing ideas at the wall and now they're not even waiting to see what sticks, they're just trying another idea.
I loved Sonic growing up. Even having only a SNES and playing Mario. I would play Sonic every chance I get. When I lived with my nana a summer before moving back to the states I had a Dreamcast pretty much perpetually rented out to play Sonic Adventure.
The thing is Sonic (platformers) has never really been good. Generations has probably gotten the closest honestly, but it's still not great. To be a good Sonic game I think the entire outlook of Sonic needs to be changed in some incredibly fundamental way. But that will not happen.
Poor Sonic. In an attempt to say some nice things about the hedgehog, I will say that the Sonic 2 soundtrack was pretty great, and that the latest Sonic & All-Stars Racing game was a not-too-shabby kart racer, which filled a nice niche back in 2013, when the recent Mario Kart games were pretty shit.
Encouraging side scrolling Sonic is recommended, especially if made by the original team that made Sonic CD.
I said I wish for the Sonic CD team to make the game and that side scrolling games are what I like.
I grew up with Sonic games too, my first console was a Master System 2 and had all the sonic games up to the point that Sega went bonkers and made the Megadrive Mega CD. The Sega CD was cost prohibitive for my parents so I played the Sega CD games at my friends house. I haven't played Sonic till Sonic Generations but I stopped playing that because of all the non side scrolling stages, I ended up uninstalling.
I was watching the speed runs that were on Twitch recently and it made me nostalgic of how my brother and I would do our own time trials.
Gamecube adapters went back up for sale on the Nintendo shop today, if you are Wii U laden but for some reason did not pre-order the Smash special bundle a year ago.
I would suggest Ys: Oath of Felghana and King of Fighters XIII (need more players). Also personally planning of getting Fairy Bloom Freesia, played demo some time ago and it seemed pretty good.
You do know that Calamity Trigger is the first version of BlazBlue and has no online play? Sure, if you just play it casually it gives you a feeling how it plays, but it's still old and obsolete version.
The few times I played Arc games online it was a mistake. I also can't really get into fighting games the same way that I used to when I was younger. I just like to mess around with them a little bit.
I might get the new guilty gear, but I'll wait until it goes down a bit. Their P4 game I thought I'd get really into and then just didn't play much of it.
I can understand not being interested of playing fighting game online. Also, even if it had online mode, it would probably be dead anyways. And I totally got continuum shift extend just for the story and other single player stuff, that can be fun on it's own too.
Yeah I didn't expect breath of fire 4 to go on sale any time soon last week when I bought it. But I did pick up Dino crisis and x4 which I played the shit out of when I was younger.
I can recommend Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Spelunky and FTL: Faster than Light. I also heard great things about Rogue Legacy but I've never played it (though I've already bought it before at some other sale).

But touch screen buttons suck.
