  • Wheat: make a hoe, use it to right click on any ground square that has grass growing on it. If it coughs up seeds then you've got the start for wheat. To plant the wheat, find ground squares that can be irrigated or build an irrigable area using the dirt blocks and a water spring block and right-click on them to remove the top layer. Use the seeds on that ground to plant them. Provided nothing tramples the seeds then in a few days it'll grow wheat that can be harvested and will provide 1-2 more seeds in the process. 3 Wheat = one Bread.

Water: Are you nowhere near a lake or ocean area? Once you have a bucket you can swim out into the water and use the bucket to collect a water spring block. You can also set up a never ending water spring area by digging a 2x2x1 pit and putting water springs blocks on the opposite corners. So long as you don't remove more than one at a time they'll regenerate themselves.
  • In one of my mines, I uncovered an underground stream, but I have not found the source yet. It runs right by a room I could easily turn into a dirt patch, but it seems to stick to it's path. I haven't experimented with it too much for fear of flooding my mine.

I am near a lake, possibly an ocean.

I will make a hoe soon and attempt to make some cave-wheat. We'll see how it goes.

I am attempting to delve deeper under the mountain with the large natural cave. I've hit a few cavities, and just opened up a bit with a bunch of monsters. I killed most of them, but I can't seem to figure out how to kill the kamakazi guys without becoming endeadened myself. And no, I don't have a bow.
  • And no, I don't have a bow.
    Better get one.

Hit, run. Hit, run. Hit, run. The better your sword, the fewer hits it takes.

After a long game and few if any saves, my game has crashed. I doubt any of my stuff will remain. I still have the game window open but it's not responding. Is there anything I can do?

  • Back your saves up regularly? :/ That sucks man.

I think that creepes (the exploding cactus-people) are easiest one to kill if you see them first. They don't explode untill you are close and you can hit them and run away like Jason said. Skeletons are the ones that will kill you if you don't have bow.

I opened my world in invedit and a lot of my important stuff was there. I hope my world will be the same. I was digging a mine and I have a record in a chest.

Edit: I closed my non-responding game and reopened it. I seem to be inside a solid wall. I'm losing damage quickly and I can't use any items.

Play while you're doing something else, like posting on the forums. That way you're always saving! It's what I do.

Ok. I had to pause and come and post this. I just started a new game after not playing for a while to eat up all the delicious new updates and my spawning point has a MASSIVE cave and lava at ground level. It's friggin awesome!

  • To rid yourself of something quick, find lava, then bring up your inventory and drag the desired stack from the inventory to the screen all 64 blocks burn to a crisp in a second

I was able to edit myself out with mcedit :)

The thing is, the game put an exploding creeper in the same spot. He blew up my chest of goodies and myself. :( I edited in a new chest, ran to where I died and got everything important back. This game cheats, but I cheat better.

  • You can also bind a button, usually Q, to throw the item you're currently holding.
  • So, uh...I may have made a mistake. See, I had cut out some logs from trees, and took the flint and steel item to ignite the remaining treetops. But...well...what I didn't realize was that...see...fire has an area effect. And...well...there are lots of trees on the hillside near my mine entrance...and I never cleared them...
So...now the entirety of the hill outside of my mine is on fire.
And did you know there were bears in the game? One showed up during the conflagration.

  • I started a new area and found out that I think I hit the motherload when it comes to clay, it is brimming in this area and I have no idea what to do with it all.

  • You've never seen a bear riding on a creeper?

There's a skin mod that lets you turn all the cows into bears. Mooing bears are funny.

  • The attention to detail is frightening.
  • Ok guys, what other existing game maps can we do in Mincraft? Zelda 1?

LTTP. We'll build the Dark World in the nether.

What if we did all the Zeldas in the same map file, and you went from the end of one to the beginning of the next one.

The map has the surface area of eight earths...It's doable.
  • If the mechanisms available improve (Programable blocks with inputs and outputs.) then building temples and the like would be super fun.

Notch is supposed weighing "microchip blocks" heavily right now. Also, pipes and floodgates are coming, so we could do the Water Temple.
  • so we could do the Water Temple.
Great, that's the last fucking temple we want to do.

Luckily the chips aren't coming for a while. We're going to need so much fucking redstone programming for that.

The Great Deku tree is doable now, I think.

Not really, fire puzzles would be problematic.
