I might buy a shitty unlocked GSM phone with no contract somwhere and pop SIMs into it every time I travel.
That's what I did when I visited Portugal this past summer. It was as basic a phone as you can get -- not even a smartphone. However, it only cost about 30 Euros, so I can't complain too much.
iPhone -> iPhone 3GS -> iPhone 4S -> Nokia Lumia 920 After 5 years of Apple I thought it would be fun to try something new.
I am probably the only one on here running Windows Phone 8. I am incredibly happy with it and will probably post some pros/cons list that I've been keeping notes on. If anyone has any questions I'll try to answer.
As for that previous discussion on offline maps, the Nokia GPS on the 920 prompts you to pre-download entire state's maps (50-100MB each) when you first launch the app. Works like a champ offline.

Have you tried running the Geeknights app on WP8? I'm not upgrading for a few months, so I can't test it myself. (Runs fine in the WP8 SDK VM though.)
Then get in line! The Nexus 4 is the best phone in its price range. Better than some phones that cost a lot more. Unless you need the phone NOW!
So, does that mean I have to sit there refreshing Google Play Store for days? Or is there a better way to keep up to date? (I'm in Australia, however).

There is... such a thing? I can't imagine what it would do (aside from streaming the podcast?) but now I've got to check it out to satisfy curiosity.
Finding a podcast app that could even come close to the functionality of Downcast on iOS was the hardest transition task by far. Podcasting as built into the OS is hilariously bad. Gotta have the ability to subscribe by manual RSS feed entry, have automatic feed refresh with background downloading, have good playback control, etc. By my count there are only 5 podcasting apps, and the first four were utter shit. Wpodder got the job done.
I checked it out. It's pretty good for an app based around one podcast, but I have no use for such an app. It lets you stream all the episodes, including archives, browse the forums, read what's posted on the website, and has a creepy "stalk Rym & Scott" page that is just your two Twitter feeds.
I'm up for upgrade in June 2013 and I have no idea what I'll be getting. Obviously I need to wait and see what the market looks like, but I've never really been in a position where I don't even know what OS my next smartphone will run. I've been on Android for a few years, but I'm getting pretty sick of it.
Up for an upgrade? You do know it is cheaper to buy off contract than go with the carrier lockin?
My contract doesn't actually end for another four months after that, and I'm not sure how much longer I want to deal with my piece of shit Droid BIONIC. I really have no idea what I'll do.
Buying off contract in the United States doesn't really save you any money. It's not like you get a discount on your phone bill once your phone is paid off.

The only advantage you've got if you buy off contract is if you can get the phone unlocked that way. Otherwise, yeah, there's no real point.

Totally me.
Edit: Awe man. I was just reading the reviews and it looks like it doesn't fit correctly. I am a sad panda.
Do you want an unlocked android phone?
Do you need LTE support because this phone does not do LTE.

I just use old Google Listen for the five podcasts I listen to.
