  • Yes, because it's so easy to inform and anger enough consumers to meaningfully impact the sales of a national restaurant chain for any extended period of time.
    TV commercials?

    Who watches those anymore?

Chick-Fil-A donated about $2 million dollars last year to anti-gay groups. Let's put some perspective here. People have donated more than DOUBLE that in less than a month for an imaginary video game console. Way to go internet.

That would work, if you can pay for them. Hence why I said that relying on "market forces" gives rich people more speech than everyone else. Which I hasten to point out is fucking bullshit.
  • I assume not everyone has a Hopper from Dish and that only skips prime time commercials. Bomb the airwaves! Radio commercials! Billboards! Bus ads!

I just want us to step back and consider that maybe the government isn't the solution to all our problems.
  • No, but it sure as hell beats the free market at combating oppression.
  • This thread is a fucking joke.
  • For once I agree.

You can either eat at Chick-Fil-A, or you don't. If you think they support bad things and that's why you don't eat there, okay. If you think they have bad food and don't eat there, okay.

But if someone chooses to eat there, they are not making some kind of mistake or anything. They're just eating food.

It can legislate against oppression, but it is up to people to enact change. Let's remember that the civil rights movement didn't get started until enough people got angry at the state of affairs to do something.
  • I saw that. I liked it at first. But actually I do think a company can have a stance on same sex marriage... that being that they want all of their employees and the families of their employees to qualify for the same benefits. Of course, they could just enforce that as policy with their health plans and such... which would be totally cool if some companies are doing that...

    Some do I believe.
  • You know, it just kinda hit me when I saw that on my Facebook feed. I'm done, nothing we say on here is gonna make a difference anyway.
  • One of the NYU Dining Halls contains the only Chick-Fil-A in Manhattan. Students started boycotting them right when (conveniently) I got rid of my meal plan. As a result, I can say I have been boycotting them for two years.
That's still there? I thought it went away. I ate there a couple times, and they had weird waffle fries, and then Rym told me the story of Chick-Fil-A and I was like, I'm in fucking Manhattan, I don't need to eat this garbage anyway. And so I didn't. I'm surprised that place is still part of the one dining hall.

Student building at EKU had a Chick-Fil-A in the lower food court when I was there. My friends and I would get the waffle fries from there and then a thing of queso dip from the mexican place right next to it.

Waffle fries and queso. Best thing for those late nights studying, at least we thought back then.
  • Didn't know how good we had it at the time. RIT had ZERO fast food restaurants on campus. I think the only chain restaurant on campus was the Ben & Jerry's.
  • We have one or two more now, but it's mostly RIT's dining halls. Which, minus Gracie's, are pretty good. The Common's and Sol's Underground are both rather tasty.
  • I go away for two days and you guys spend half this conversation talking about where these places are! I don't even know what one is. To get this train back on track how easy is it to set up boot camp?
  • My uni's library heard you like books, so they bound a book in a book so you can read while you read.

  • I've been reading a bit about accelerometers and I'm curious about playing mobile games in space/on the moon.

However, I don't want to sound like I am ragging on NYU's food service. Their cafeteria offerings were mostly really delicious. Lots of variety and good vegetarian options. Also, we got student discounts at a lot of Village restaurants.

  • Just realized I probably can't get both a ccw and a medical marijuana card. I mean I don't NEED either of them, but it would be convenient.
  • I still don't have a CCW permit. Just haven't felt the need yet.
  • I mentioned during the pre-show for FNPL that I'd not watched Coffee and Cigarettes in about 10 years(It's actually 9, to be accurate - I thought it came out in 2002, but it was actually 2003) and I think it's time to correct that.

  • Ooh, it's green. I love green. Oh mans. Damn you!
  • Today I read the phrase "I'd put an orange in her mouth and suck her tits 'til I got Fanta."
  • I'm getting so tired and annoyed with those "Like this photo if you remember this nostalgic bullshit OMG MY CHILDHOOD WAS THE BEST" on Facebook.

I'm beyond tempted to take a picture of underwear with skidmarks and put a caption "Like this photo if you shat your pants as a child: NOSTALGIA IS AWESOME!!" just to troll.
