  • What kind of web hosting doesn't have FTP support? I don't use anything but FTP on my server.

Is that FTP through an SSL tunnel? Is it SFTP? If not, then it's insecure as all fuck. It's trivial for anyone to completely fuck you over.

I don't know. But I'm too busy to sit and find a reliable, free host with a gig or more of space to give me. Do the legwork, and I will do the other work.
  • I don't really want or need the higher resolution map, because if I want to explore I'll do so on the actual server, not via satellite imagery. I just want to see the extent of the world and how much it has changed since the last map. Not sure if it is easier for map generation, but it's perfectly suitable for a general overview.

I can't vouch for them, but they claim 5gigs and FTP for free. http://www.zymic.com/free-web-hosting/

Edit: Ouch. Upon further inspection, max single file size is 15 megs.

  • Nice! I notice it's a few days old. Also steps and signs don't seem to show up. With that map I'm going to go exploring.

    Here is a biggish map.
Sweet. Maybe we can make another map in a month or so, and I'll go print a few on the plotter.

Edit: Is that fucking BOAT? I think I might make an outpost in that giant desert and build a glass factory.

Here is a neat little landmark I found to the north. Pumpkins worship the great floating coal.

  • I think we need to make a to-scale map near the spawn point, with rough outlines of islands and deserts, and then with signs showing what is where.

I don't think it could be nearly detailed enough to be useful, else too big.

Oh, by the way. Adam, how would you feel about building a sky bridge to link our two sky fortresses?

  • Wow. Looking that map I realized that there is so many things on the server that I haven't seen. I should do some touristing in the future.

I might be up for that, depending on where you wanted to connect it.

It might not be uploaded 100 percent yet -- I can't check while at work -- but here is a Google Maps-powered look at Secondus, with mutli-level views. Be patient if it is slow to load at all levels. That's 660 MB of map right there.

The top of the screen is northeast, by the way, if that helps orient you.

Thanks to Joe Boomer for server space. He is awesome and will get all diamond everything everything everything next time I see him on the server.

  • Hey Jason, add "omnutia", I might come for a wander round some time.
  • The Secondus google map is the awesome.
  • I wonder if anyone has encountered the odd little signs I've been leaving about?

Was that you who put the "Nice view" sign in my pavilion?

O'course. There are others, scattered about the world. EDIT - the two near my cave don't count, they're mostly to remind myself not to jump in those damn holes and die.

HOWS COME I NEVER SEE YOU ON THE SERVER? ARE YOU INVISIBLE?

Nah, I just log on at odd hours when I do have time, and of late, I've just not had the time. I'm around on occasion, though, I've bumped into Subgenius and Omar before, and chatted with Luke from across the land.

You're lying. You're some kind of Australian leprechaun.

It gets better - Joshbytes was kind enough to take a screenshot for me, and should be posting it shortly.

  • Thanks man - Also, If you find me wandering about, you'll get a Three Leaf Clover. Actually, a sapling, but it's the best I could do.
  • I am unable to connect. Has the IP address changed or have I been banned?
  • Jason disconnects the server to help bandwidth while recording on skype for the ATW9k podcast.
