Apologies for not being there for the tragedy to help the cause. Will join the rebuilding cause. Also, how much land do we want to clear around Sirako?
I heard someone burnt down my treehouse the other day. To whoever you are, fuck you too.
This is again, why I don't like mobs in Minecraft. Who wants to make pottery if a bull comes charing in and smashes everything once a week?
Also, here's an idea. Why not store the server's save file in Git and push it out to Github. That way you can rollback in case of fire. Also, other people can easily download the full history of the save game and load it up on their own machines.

Different kind of game. It's building mixed with a sort of "survival horror." Both ways of playing are perfectly valid. I'm more interested in the survival than the "build clever things" aspects of Minecraft.

I'm interested in both, as long as it is one at a time.
Jason and I have talked about this, but mostly mobs are useful for driving an overall narrative much like dwarf fortress. If you never had to deal with any hardships, DF would be a lot less interesting. It's a key component to the emergent gameplay.
I know that Jason is planning to get some server wrappers running to certain areas can be zoned for certain types play. We would really like to build an area for people where they have to platform through a dungeon and puzzle solve to get some awesome loots.
Also, mobs are not responsible for starting fires. And backing up is a pain in the ass because a complete Minecraft save has about 30,000-50,000 files. A backup can also wipe inventories.
It would be simple to make conflict interesting. Have zones of control.
If you build something within your zone of control, it's like normal minecraft. Building and breaking is easy.
If you want to build something outside of your zone, it's still easy. But breaking built things is difficult and now requires specialized and slow equipment. Mayhaps siege engines and the like.
I'm pretty sure there is a setting or hack that will keep something that is built from being destroyed. I went to this one server that has different zones you can warp to and some zones you could not build or destroy anything, other zones you could.
All these are great ideas, but I lack two things to make them happen: Awesomeness and a knowledge of Java programming. For now, I have to rely on mods and plugins.
Speaking of which, we are now successfully running hMOD, so console commands might be a little different. There might also be some weird glitches. And I'll be experimenting with various settings for a while. Don't panic if the server goes up and down.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: You may have to message me to even get access to the server at all. Post here or jhawk0109 on AIM.
I can't get my game to recognize console commands. How do I enter the console? Am I missing something?
/T will bring up the text window and then adding /help will bring up commands. I tested a few and got interesting results:
/Help [2] there isn't anything there /sethome THANK YOU FOR USING THIS! /home Don't panic, it works you need to let the server load so chill for a minute and you are fine /Spawn It works...kinda. I go to a random point (it appears to be someone's mine) but not the default spawn point
Also going to use my excessive rocks and buckets to help with the restoration project next time, for the good of the cause!
People of Sirako... or people that want to help with it I guess. If you could flatten out the land a bit outside the walls of the city that would be awesome. (Even with the land at the south gate if you want a guideline.) Then we can have farmland or people can make little houses outside the gates so we can have a little village there or something.

>Use "/home," go to a completely different location.
