  • I haven't bought the full version of the game (only thing holding me back are finals next week) so anyone interested in posting some screenshots of Sirako/the world?
  • Alright anyone interested in helping me the long lost civilization of the crab people? In the planning stage and...I think I am over my head to create awesomeness.

Where are you thinking of constructing it?

    Where else, underneath the earth!

well... yes.. but.. where will the entrance be and such?
  • well... yes.. but.. where will the entrance be and such?
The entrance will be located at the end of a deep unlit cave under a pool of lava.

You have the right idea...actually I am working on getting the site prepped now, you can actually find the cave in question if you follow the arrows by the tree farm.

Your pool of lava will be unable to contain the Crab People menace. They will eventually escape and ruin everything!

Man, I started building a dungeon last week, and now I can't find it again. The intention was to hide it very well and have players search for it and plumb its depths for treasures. It worked so well that I hid it from myself. >_>

The problem I'm having of late is that I need a reason for any structure I build to exist. I'd love to build a complicated system of catacombs with rewards in their depths, but what would the rewards be? If you want something, you can craft it yourself without my help.

Yes, people can craft anything, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Just give the rewards in quantity.

Two full sets of diamond armor with 5 full sets of diamond tools. Hot diggity!

Such armor may come in handy this weekend. Scouts report mob hordes have been spotted in outlying forests. That puts them about three days' march away from our settlements.

Sounds like the start of an epic quest!

Scott's exactly right about the rewards in quantity. Diamond items are great - or what about a whole pile of gold blocks which you can then use to bling out your own structures? Not to mention there's the challenge of exploration and dungeoneering, or the opportunity to see some crazy amazing architecture hidden down there. Those are rewards in themselves, depending on the inclinations of the players.

Imagine, for example, that Kiey's mind-blowing sky temple was hidden in a far corner of Praetoria somewhere and was difficult to access. Then imagine that he put up signs on the server's community boards, inducing players to find it and tempting them with promises of treasure inside. Furthermore, what if he plants a number of riddles and clues, that when solved, direct the player to the hidden location? I don't know about you, but that's the kind of stuff I eat up. The rewards are multiple - material (loot), aesthetic (sightseeing), mental (problem solving), and social (bragging rights, shared adventure.) That's why I'd love to see more dungeons.

If only I could make a Creeper prison, filled with thousands of them, just waiting to be unleashed by the intrepid soul who ignored my warnings and opened the sacred seal.

Holy yes please! Something like this is a great idea! Mayhaps I shall move on to this after my quarry-lair-thing reaches a satisfactory conclusion

Needs more TNT for devious traps.

If I had the tools to craft a dungeon without having to invest hours of digital slave labor finding stuff that will either get given away or used to build the dungeon (and thus either get torn asunder or given away), I would build dungeons. But, I mean, look at that armory structure. I have to study, and there are games I can play that don't crash. I'm not going to mine enough iron to build something like that for a dungeon on the chance that someone will play through it on good faith. Also, the present server mod is a total gamebreaker. Why build a dungeon if there is no risk to the player? If you get stuck at the bottom of a pitfall, or even falls into lava, one command can warp you home worryfree. I don't feel like spending my time on that, honestly.

*shrugs* Then don't. No one's going to get on your ass about not playing Minecraft or not doing this or that. It's true that crap is buggy. I think there's potential for fun in the dungeon idea, but if it's not fun for you, then don't do it, obviously.

I know. I mean, I want to build a dungeon. To me, dungeon construction is fun, and I like people running through my creations and trying (and sometimes failing) to get the loots. So I would spend a ton of time doing it if I had the tools.

I guess the best solution would be giving various dungeon-builders spawn rights while they work. Obviously, though, you can't trust just anyone with that. The last thing you need is some new kid turning out to be a griefer and booby-trapping every significant structure in the world while he's "building a dungeon."

  • So I started a dungeon.

Do not fuck with it. You might die.

And so will all your inventory.
  • edited December 2010
but what would the rewards be?
    A chest full of TNT.
And so will all your inventory.
Pro-tip: Carry a couple of chests to drop things in if you think you're about to do something dangerous.

  • The dungeon isn't done, but there is a dormant trap, that, if accidentally dug into, could easily end you.
  • I think I'm done for tonight.

  • That sir, is a rather nice portal path.(also, alliterative)
  • Must not buy minecraft... MUST NOT BUY MINECRAFT.

Thank you very much. I'm going to build up some more before we get it activated, but I thought I'd get ready since I found my first diamond and obsidian last night. Also others helped with ideas. :P
Hopefully by... Friday, everything "bare bones" will be done.
Must not buy minecraft... MUST NOT BUY MINECRAFT.
Buy Minecraft, just don't get on a server. I seriously cannot stop thinking about improvements to my lil chunk of land.
  • The portal system is up and running, and anyone may petition me to have one activated. But I don't want 50 portals going to nowhere useful. To have a portal, you must have a sufficiently established and built-up destination as judged by moi. There is also an activation tribute of 10 gold ingots.

You must also have the permission of the person on the terminating end of the portal. (I apologize Kiey for not getting yours before I put the Sirako portal in. It can easily be removed or relocated as you see fit. I needed somewhere to test the mechanics of the system.)
  • Doesn't building a portal just need a bunch of obsidian and a fire starter?
