Doesn't building a portal just need a bunch of obsidian and a fire starter?
Nope. The Nether doesn't work in SMP. Point-to-point portals are a server mod reserved for admins.

Our portals have fixed entrances and exits. The one on my watchtower near the spawn point will always let you out in Sirako. The portal in Sirako will always let you out on the watchtower. The portal in the transportation center near spawn will always take you to Odinhall. The one in Odinhall will always take you instantly back to the transportation hub.

wait, will my portal not work? I mean, I know it won't go to The Nether, but will it effect your mod?

Your portal will nothing except glow a little.
  • Damn my creativity, I have come up with a pseudo narrative for the crab people, need to write this down and get started.

I think you mean a ludonarrative.
  • The dungeon isn't done, but there is a dormant trap, that, if accidentally dug into, could easily end you.
Sounds awesome. Let us know when you finish it - I will definitely try it. :)
  • @Adam: Gmail is acting weird today. I replied to your email and it was returned to me. To get you on the server, I need your user name, sir.
  • The server will be down until approx. 10:30 p.m. to free up bandwidth to record ATW9K.
  • Can I join the server?

Thanks to MrRoboto, a.k.a. Omar, a.k.a. Rob, a.k.a. Papionda, for suggesting Eldpack.

  • Imma build a got-damned sky palace.
Are you guys using cheats to give yourself blocks to build with or are you mining them?

I've been mining all on my own.

    Also, progress from yesterday:

  • Admins (Andrew and myself) are the only ones capable of spawning blocks.

As for your sky castle, I recommend you trod due north from the spawn point and see what Kiey's done with the very same concept. It's quite impressive.

I got lucky and found natural floating terrain, it was just a matter of taking advantage of what was there. Unlike Sirako which was flattening what was there and building up what I wanted.
  • Life has been getting in the way but the construction of the base in the lake will resume shortly. Screenshots will follow as events warrant.
  • So, I'm looking for ideas. I made an armory, watchtower, public workshop, and my house. I'm thinking of adding walls and expanding the land a bit since I have an almost full doublechest of dirt.
  • Lag is really, really bad on the server. I walk 4 steps, wait two seconds, walk for steps, etc. Makes building impossible for me...let alone getting far enough away from anything to start mining and building. >_<

So, I found my old dungeon. The reason I had such trouble locating it is that the server presumably messed with its chunk. The mountain it was located in was sheared in half, and the surrounding terrain became a gigantic mass of water. While I was exploring, I swam through this water, just happening to look up and see one of my dungeon's rooms exposed like a chamber in an ant farm. Unfortunately, that room was all that survived the chunkocalypse.

My project now is to build a wizard's tower out of the side of that fucking cliff. Screw you, nature. I will deface you with the power of blocks!

    chunkopalypse
Fixed (for better phonetics + mild spoonerism) and nominated for best new gaming related word of 2010.

  • Is the lag this bad for everyone or is it just me?
BTW, love all the neat stuff people are building.
  • Is the lag this bad for everyone or is it just me?
This is why I'm rarely going on the server.

Lag is a problem of latency. The problem here is different; in recent weeks, people have roamed in all directions with six degrees of freedom. That means the map has grown to 113 MB of data across 26,481 files in 4,164 folders. Each time you take a step, the server has to seek which of those files to load and send them to you for your end to parse. Other people already have temp files available to them and all the server has to do is check against them for changes. You're caught in a prolonged loading pattern.

This is a problem having to do with the way Notch's code procedurally generates content. It also has to do with the migration of the map back and forth to a USB drive when I reinstalled the OS looking for more stability and compatibility with third-party plugins. I apologize that it ruined something you made. I didn't intend for that to happen.
  • Double-post:

If you'd like, we could save this map and start a new one. I'm getting a little bored with the existing landscape anyway and I severely dislike the severed mountains.

hmmm. I'd want to keep my inventory. :P
Sounds good to me. I'd like to start fresh with everyones from tue beginning.
  • Reboot. Let us spawn TNT and Diamond kits!
  • I vote yay to reboot, I found it is better to team up on a large project then to work by yourself
  • I vote reboot, but my vote should count little as I just recently joined.
I vote reboot because I feel too overwhelmed. :P
  • While i'd miss what I have, I wouldn't mind starting over to make something grander.
