I still like the cartoon as a cartoon. I stay out of the extreme ends of the fan community for the most part (hanging out with cosplaying girls withstanding). Like a lot of things, I'm never passionate enough about a thing to be "in the community" for that thing.
I will watch Equestria Girls and see where my point stands. Only if it and Season 4 are decided lame is when the magic will fade. (I wanna read the comics too)
Yeah, I'll be interested to see how that turns out. Also it looks like we have another new writer confirmed for S4. The guy doesn't have a lot of experience and seems like he might have gotten the job from being buddies with Hub execs, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. This also means the odds are very good that fan non-favorite Merriwether Williams left or has been squeezed out.

Oops, sorry about that. Should work now. Anyway Rogers is coming back to the show and replacing Morrow, and all of the other veterans from S3 except Williams are confirmed returning. With Fullerton back for an episode and 3 other new writers involved there just isn't a lot of space left.
Edit: also looking at Twitter I guess SDCC schedules are out and confirm a S4 sneak preview for 10 AM Saturday.
Is she story editing all of the episodes now? I saw her in some of the AT S1 credits (the only season I've watched). Most of these shows have about 6 months of writing work per year so writers often do two.
Wow, I was gone all day and nobody posted the SDCC stuff. Y'all really are pretty over ponies around here. Anyway, here's a SDCC panel writeup that covers all of the new S4 info.
And here are animatics from four different episodes; the first song of S4 is at 2:10.
Most of this stuff looks reasonably promising, but I'm not suddenly super hyped.
Children of the Night finally came out. Looks great and (mostly) sounds great, but I have no idea what to make of what's actually happening. Some sort of weird fanfic.
The animation is superb. It uses flash but doesn't fall into the trappings and shortcuts that flash animation infamous for. Sure, the creators of the actual MLP show boast about their show looking almost traditionally animated at times. But in reality, they rely on recycling those same assets and those same poses. Which is very economical considering the television budget. But this video though, the shackles of the show's budget and production schedule are gone.
And I think what sells this the animation in this video, aside from the flying sequence, are all of the different new head perspectives made for Luna. It gives her body movements a more three dimensional depth. It's probably just me, but I've been long tired of seeing some of the same head perspectives on MLP. When they do have a different perspective it either looks good or completely hideous. Compare Rarity's "I'll destroy her!" line from "Ponyville Confidential" versus the group huddle scene in "Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000." There is a reason why the Fluttershy head turn in "Putting Your Hoof Down" and the violin solo in "Apple Family Reunion" are stand out scenes, they don't look flat.
I've rewatched Luna's head turn @2:17 a dozen times. I'm pretty sure the animator used classic tween for the eyes. That head tilt is very clean. You can't animate something like that pose to pose. The frames are on ONES for goodness sake. This person is a REALLY skillful flash animator and brought his A game.

Got a bit better at drawing ponies.
The problem is, it will become Firefly if the property continues on the track it's on: a short, perfect series that then died forever.
