  • No, I'm asking you to back up your playing of the race card. Also asking you to back your claim that over half of the country is racist and ignorant.

You do know that SOME Obama support is also based on race? Do they cancel each other out?

You brought race into this as a major issue and I countered that ideology is the major issue yet you continue to hold that race card like it's made of gold. You use anecdotal evidence knowing such evidence is not given much weight on this forum.

You used anecdotal evidence in your comment immediately prior to your last one, so.. I guess we're both jerks? :-)

No, I don't think the racism on the Dem side cancels out the racism on the Republican side. I infer this from the commentary I read online, the twitter hash tags, the facebook posts, the stuff on reddit, etc. Look at where red states are. Mitt basically won the Confederacy. Do I have hard data, charts, and graphs from my secret mind reading technology? No, I don't.

And you can move away from racism and onto other regressive social ideology, like homophobia, misogyny (fair pay act?! pshaw!), welfare (corporate welfare OK, though).

Republicans fucking suck at social issues. They should leave them alone and focus on fiscal pragmatism, minus the ulterior motives (let's defund general welfare programs but ignore our insanely bloated military.)

The fact is that fiscal pragmatism isn't even a plank in their platform anymore, and hasn't been for at least 20 years. Their platform is based on a 30 year old welfare queen narrative and a lot of anger and religious extremism they've taken on in order to pander to a lower common denominator of voters. Their primary focus is to stay in power, and second to dismantle the middle class which they consider to be a bunch of hangers-on and coattail riders. GTFO.

  • Yes we are both jerks.

What about the way blacks treat other blacks who come out as Republican? Often calling them Uncle Tom or race traitors?

Homophobia is a problem in both parties memberships, not so much at the top for Democrats.

Fair pay act? You mean the law that extended the litigation window while doing nothing to address the issue ?

I'm with you in opposing the social cons.

You should see what White people get called when they come out as a democrat to their republican family... :-p

Lets just say the N word with lover came up a few times especially in 2008 when my sister said she voted for Obama.

  • BTW ScoJo, how is your dad?
Hopefully working on growing his dashiki.
  • LOL, I haven't talked to him since a day before the election. Though from the E-mails I've gotten

    Here is a sample "
There is no understanding why people would vote a Pres. back in to office when he did such a bad job in his last term.... It shows to me that people do not understand how bad things really are... Well you got what you wanted, not me I did not vote for this loser... It will not matter to me who is in.. But my kids , kids , kids will pay for what has happened today... There will be no end in sight for them.. The dept will be with us when he finishes this term so hi, they will never have a chance in life... I am a Marine, that like the first lady said she was never proud of America until now.. I will never be proud of America again... I am a shamed of what the people of the USA just did to this great Country... You have gotten what you wanted.. Now you will have to live with it ... God Bless America! This could be the last time you hear this any were "

He did get through it without saying anything actually super crazy.
  • No but you did claim that over half the country is racist and ignorant. You also characterize oposition to Obama as being based on race (stop the black guy.)
Ahem. Southern Strategy. So yes, the Republican Party does (or at least did, anyway) use racism as part of its way of appealing to voters.
  • "Understanding what will happen is frightening to say the least... First off, I am sure he is looking at ways to get around our constitution , like he has in the past.. Business that were going to reinvest in their comp. will now look other places to invest there money they have setting on the side... So the jobs will not be there for the young people getting out of collages .. The words High Mom and Dad, I am back as they move back in.. because they can not find a good paying job... The welcome to Walmart job is gone for them ... Then as more family's have to move back in together to make ends meet for the generations.. The percentage of people on Gov. hand outs will go up.. So lets use a no. 37% are on some sort of gov. hand out.. So this will go up to around 47 or even 50 % by the end of this term... So that leaves the others to pay for health care and taking care of all the food stamps, housing allowances , gas , elec. and welfare.. So money will be tighter for the people that are working.. so they will not spend as much so again it will go down some more... Just like the big City's... You will never see a Republican mayor in these city's , and you haven.t for yrs.. Think why would you? The first thing a Rep. would do is cut funding for the free ride on the backs of working people... So now it has spread to the USA completely ,,, you might not ever have a Rep. Pres. again.. Why or how can you.. If more voters are on the Gov. ass est, would you vote your silver spoon out of your mouth.. No way.. but then as the USA falls to a third world country and there just isn't enough people to pay taxs.. Then we will have civil wars like all the other third world country's.. So They have defeated us with in.. Like they said they would..
Such a sad day for the children of America.. Some not even born yet... My flag will now be put at half mask, and upside down for the next 4 yrs...
    later Semper Fi"

It's natural, your hormones start raging, you think you're not pretty. No one's asked you to Prom yet and the cheer squad didn't accept you.

  • I hope he does fly the flag at half mast and upside down every day. I really hope the police and EMS go to his house every day looking for the emergency, and he is fined every day for making them respond to fake calls for help.

Also has your dad ever been on government assistance, with foodstamps and all that? Does he know what sort of life that actually provides?
  • From trogdor on FB:

  • I want to go there and play taps. ALL THE TIME.

    YES.
  • Scott, I have an image of your dad writing about the terrible decline of this country while sitting in his beach house two blocks from the shore.

    Does he not see it?
  • Well that shore house was built by Americans (and Puerto Rician day laborers)

Puerto Ricans are still Americans! They're all US citizens by law!
  • To no one in particular, it's half staff, not half mast, unless there's a maritime vessel involved. This has been a totally, 100 percent, super-duper undirected message from the Jason Grammar System.

What if you are one of those people with a ship's mast on your lawn? Also, what if you have a boat without masts that has a dedicated flag pole on the deck?

if Puerto Rico becomes a state, I'm going to be really excited to see Real America get bent out of shape at the prospect of updating the flag.

  • I suspect that the Republicans would never let Puerto Rico become a state.
  • I suspect that the Republicans would never let Puerto Rico become a state.
Why? I've asked better than two dozen republicans about that after i heard that same prediction and none of them had an issue with it.

  • Republicans that you ask in your home town and Republicans in congress think different things. DC and Puerto Rico would be two new blue states. That means more Democrats in the Senate and the House, and more electoral college votes too.

Oh... That makes sense. I sometimes forget about real life and drift back into that happy fantasy where politicians do things based on what their constituents actually want rather than on whatever keeps their evil, decrepit asses in power.

It will be fun to see what type of shit they come up with to justify blocking Puerto Rico's statehood to their constituency.

I have self-identified as "Latino/Hispanic" on every piece of paperwork for over a decade now, and my dad is a naturalized citizen. T_T

Isn't your family of European Spanish extraction though? Latino/Hispanic generally refers to those of Central/South American ancestry.

Then again, they can't even make up their minds as it seems like every organization/government/etc. has different rules. Some say only Spanish-speaking Latin Americans count, while leaving out Brazil. Some say all Latin Americans count, including Portuguese-speaking Brazil. Some say all Spanish speakers count, including European Spain but leaving out Brazil and Portugal. And some say all of Iberian ancestry count, which includes all of Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. It's a total mess.

Hell, I put down "white" sometimes and I put down "Latino/Hispanic" sometimes, despite being Portuguese, because I'm not ever sure where I fit in with respect to these ethnic demographics.
