The FRCF cannabis users are really coming out of the woodwork now that it's okay to like weed in the United States.
Anyway, I'm doing the job hunt thing right now. Doubling down on Seattle; I've got friends out there I can get an apartment with, and as if UWash, PAXP, and the national parks weren't incredible enough as is, Washington is apparently the coolest state in the union right now.
I realize how bad it looks to post about moving to a legalization state and have a post riddled with errors. I assure you I am just reading journal papers and am distracted. :P
Ahhhh guys, just a note, just because a state legalized it doesn't mean the federal government is not going to drop a ton of bricks on you. I'd wait a few months first.

Conveniently, I don't graduate until May!
Also, NYC and LA are looking pretty excellent right now, anyway.
I'd go with San Fran, LA just seems like 100% shit.

What? Pshh... naw man... pshh... no way... that won't happen.
I wonder if they will try to pass another federal law that basically says if its legal in the state then the Federal Government doesn't give a fuck.
I don't wholly endorse marijuana use but I fully endorse legalizing it and I think more states are likely to catch on. The federal government is going to have to cave eventually.
Actually, let me clarify. I don't endorse it's use in the same way that I may not endorse alcohol consumption. Some people just shouldn't drink and some people just shouldn't smoke weed.
The FBI simply can't afford to enforce federal laws on every marijuana user and dealer across two states, especially with a state marijuana board (WA has already established this).
There'll be a fight, but they'll give up. Meth from Mexico is more of a concern than Washington-grown weed.

Nothing the feds do is going to stop current users from using it, and I don't foresee the number of users going up that much anyway. Also, Seattle has always been a cool city to live in. Having legal weed and gay marriage is just icing.

Our rainy shores welcome you WUB.
I forgot you lived there! You wouldn't happen to know any biologists in Seattle, would you? I'm networking for a research position.

Pretty much how I feel. I don't particularly like it all that much but I fully endorse legalization. Hmm, I wonder how long it will be before we can get acid and mushrooms....

Most likely never. Those substances are heavily mood altering and fairly dangerous. They also fall into the some people should never have them. Most people I know who have done those drugs were already mentally prepared for what may happen to them and even then it's no guarantee. It is fairly easy to fry your brain with those chemicals. I know a few people who are completely different people, for good or bad (usually bad), after taking too many shrooms.
I'm actually really interested in what this means for synthetic psychedelics, despite never using them (or really any psychedelic). LSD and MDMA and stuff have had huge purity issues lately, but legalization would eliminate that overnight.
Also, I feel like people would catch on pretty fast that acid use isn't a habitual thing and that it's okay for people to do that occasionally. Doug Stanhope once said LSD is impossible to do regularly due to a three-day psychic hangover.

Off the top of my head, the only person I know and still talk to is my sister, but she only just got out of college herself and her connections are all in Spokane. But I have friends who know a lot of people and are well connected with the UW. I can certainly ask around.
So next year instead of the 12 brewery tour at after PAX, will there be a 10 cannabis farm tour?
I wasn't aware there was a brewery tour. But I shouldn't be surprised. The PNW is like heaven for microbrews.

Please do! I will add you on Facebook.
Failing that, I already have a research gig pending in Aurora, Colorado.

I wouldn't call them necessarily DANGEROUS, but you better be careful. I haven't used them myself, but they do interest me. Other than impurities, its really just mental issues that could occur. That's why its important to have a sitter there to try and keep you calm so you don't have a bad trip that ends up scarring you. I would recommend limiting your consumption though, just to be safe.
As far as MDMA, that is something you should really limit. I read something a while back that said if you used it more than a few times in a year you raise your likelihood for Alzheimers and other issues quite a bit.
Been reading some opinion pieces today that say Obama/Republicans was a minor problem compared to Reid/Republicans. True, False, somewhere in the middle ?

Probably somewhere in the middle, but they are opinion pieces, so who knows.
Republicans and anyone is a problem because republicans no longer believe in compromise. Their version is you agree with us, we make no concessions. Compromise!
Democrats are trying so hard not to appear unilateral since 2008 that they put insidious regressive shit in their bills that they imagine republicans will like, then pass (before 2010 anyway) the gimped bill with no republican votes.
The speech excerpts I'm hearing today give me hope that the tough problems will be tackled. I expect a combination of spending cuts and tax increases will be the order of the day. Heavier on the spending cut side because tax increases will only get us 35% (at best) of the way to where we need to be budget wise.
Obamacare repeal should be completely off the table at this point. There is a 0% chance of repeal now. Any energy spent in that directions is a waste.
I am curious about the Fed's response to the marijuana legalization successes.
I am also hopeful that the Senate will become less disfunctional in the future. Democrats do have the majority but that does not mean the minority party should be shut out. Same goes for the House.
I actually had an idea for legislative reform. Rather than let the party leadership choose who gets what committee position why not give each elected official X tokens and let them bid tokens for committee seats. Blind bidding to insure honesty. After seats are dolled out committee chair is voted on by members and unfilled seats go lottery style.

And our own HMTKSteve also thinks that's compromise!
Real compromise involves give and take, where you either come up with something half way between what both sides wanted, or find some way to give both sides most of what they wanted. One side completely capitulating to the other side's views is not compromise. One side changing their mind after the other agrees with one of their previously help views is not compromise.
When the minority party's entire platform seems to be rolling back the country socially and economically, they can be shut out. Damaging the country in order to belay tears is bad governance.
If Republicans want to go back to being the party of fiscal conservatism without the socially regressive ulterior motives behind most of their proposed cuts, then let's talk.
I'm sad to see only two independent seats in the entire Congress.
