  • I have been sympathetic to libertarian views in the past simply for fiscal reasons. The government has an approximately 1 trillion dollar deficit each year, and it's never been explained to me how that's not a problem.

However, I find it hilarious that Republican friends think their candidates would actually do anything to solve that problem. They'd bring the deficit down about 2% but at the same time institute intolerable faith-inspired policies that make my skin crawl.

As far as I see it, the only two options are: A) Burn it all down, and B) Party like it's motherfucking 1999. Borrow/print and spend as much money as humanly possible on all of the awesome science, technology, education, and general public good causes of the left, and admit that it was one hell of a ride when everything comes crashing down.

Unlike traditional logic where people get more conservative as they get older, I think libertarians will flop to liberals with age, because as we get older, it's more likely that the house of cards won't collapse until we are dead. Spend it up, Barack!

I don't recall you addressing these issues on the forum without going conspiracy nut or using the "best he can do" defense to soften your criticism.

I'll take back the partisan label if you can show me where you have addressed these issues in a way that solely critisizes Obama .
It sounds like the only people who would qualify as nonpartisan by this defense are assholes who are willing to compromise their beliefs solely to avoid a partisan label.

    Dude, you're being a dick.

Or, more appropriately, you're doing what I expect a lawyer to do. Take a term and attempt to define it so narrowly as to fit your specific purposes.

Muppet's a dick too, but I wouldn't call him partisan. I wouldn't call you partisan, because you're open to evidence contrary to your identified party's opinion.

Yeah, Steve, go back and read what you wrote. Maybe go have lunch, grab a coffee, come back and read this again. Seriously. Come on. Laser focusing criticism on a single person, especially someone with as little legislative power as the president of the US, is not a pre-requisite for bipartisanship.

  • Also, who the fuck cares what term you use to describe Muppet? It's not like a term defines the person. Instead, consider his opinions based on their individual merit. There are none of us on this forum that would be considered purely Democrat or Republican. We all have nuanced views.
  • Then expand "Obama" to "elected Democrats".

Having nuanced views doesn't make me partisan, Steve. I don't need a checklist of things I hate solely about Democrats to not be a Democrat cheerleader.

    Edit: ninja'd.

Universities, the only thing keeping Florida blue.
  • They should see a doctor about that rash and those strange spots. That's not healthy.
  • And that discharge at the tip...

It's a problem, but it's an overstated one, and a period during which the U.S. is in the midst of economic crisis and fighting two wars at the same time is quite simply not the time for drastic anti-debt measures.

The drastic consequences of massive budget cuts, on the other hand, would be a significantly more serious problem than the U.S. deficit and debt are at the moment.

  • Yes. Taking on debt during bad economic times is okay, so long as you try to pay back that debt during good economic times. The main problem is that no one has tried to pay back any debt during good times for at least as far back as the Reagan administration, and that applies to both parties. Even Clinton, with his surpluses, eventually choose to refund the surpluses back to tax payers instead of using them to pay down debt.
  • Just print money.
  • Just print money.
God, no, this is insane. Anyone with even a small bit of economics expertise knows how insane this is. I hope you're just joking/trolling/etc.

I'm in debt up past my eyeballs. I'm cheering for hyperinflation.

Ah, yes, cause paying $100 for a loaf of bread will really help you with your debt.
  • It will if he's making millions of dollars a year.
  • So, there'll be a brief adjustment period while ten million dollar bills replace singles, and federal minimum wage is adjusted by a few orders of magnitude.

And then we have WW3. Remember, hyperinflation like this is what allowed, at least in part, the Nazis to come to power in Germany. Do we really want something like this to happen here?
  • BTW, Mount Stupid is located on Idiot Island.
  • RESIDENTS OF COLORADO, WASHINGTON, AND CALIFORNIA! I have a question of the utmost importance.

Down here, we drive on the left. You drive on the right. We pass the joint or bong to the left, do you pass it to the right?
    Clockwise is the usual rotation.

I am now redoubling my employment efforts in WA.

  • I think left is the global standard.

It does depend on the setting, but I would say that 90% of the time when I've been around people passing the bong around, they pass to the left (clockwise).

I've always seen passed to the right in CA.

In Washington and Colorado, this is now a non-issue, because the price of weed is about to fall so precipitously that when you want to get high with friends, everyone is going to pull out a pack of joints or a hash caramel and go to town.

We have some family friends who are pot farmers in San Mateo, and they are against full CA legalization because they can charge around $2000/lb right now, but the price will tumble when anyone can grow or sell weed.

  • I may or may not be interested in getting some edibles now that I have the ability to. I mean being state legal I feel like I need to buy legal at least once :P

  • I look forward to the inevitable South Park episode about it.
