  • Apparently lots of people are hating on the new Doom? I thought it looked alright from Scott's stream, even if there were some connectivity issues. I was just happy to see it wasn't so damn dark really. I thought Doom 3 was ok but it was just so visually dark it was hard to get into it. The originals never had that problem, except the specific dark rooms that were meant to be that way until you find a light switch or whatever. If anything the new Doom reminded me of Quake 3 (again, I haven't played it yet), but apparently people are all "wah wah its just Halo, Call of Duty."

It's a skill-based multiplayer fps that's not fast, but not as slow as others. Still, I had no desire to play it anymore. It's just not exciting.
  • After checking out a stream of the new Doom, I can see where the complaints are coming from. It does look a lot like Halo multiplayer. The player character even looks like Master Chief.

Master Chief has always looked like Doom guy.

  • Doom Guy wasn't fully covered in Spartan armor in the previous games, though. They modified his character design for this game to evoke the Master Chief look.
  • He does look more Master Chief-like but I mean if I was fighting demons I'd want more armor than the original Doom guy had too.

The doom guy on the cover is just low on armor. He's gotta get him some. image

The new Doom guy looks like Master Chief meets Samus in her power armor.
  • GameStop launches GameTrust Initiative.

    Yep, they've gone full-on publisher.
  • David Lynch makes a video game.

  • PA strip today was about this game I hadn't heard of. Apparently the Civ IV people made it.

  • I bought that game this weekend. It's definitely high quality, but more of an RTS. Imagine an RTS but only base building and no combat (thus no micro)

Shit, I love base building over microing combat... I may have to check this.
  • Man, Offworld Trading Company is pretty crazy at times. It's been a while since I've played it, I got it when it first hit early access, but that game is intense. That moment when you see your opponents buying up your stock followed by "but wait ..." and then that closing horn with a check. So good.

Welp. That's what I've always wished for. I guess I'll have to find out if the genie was the good kind or the jerk kind.
  • Do you want COD4 Remastered? Well, you're not getting it on its own. It's a required bundle with Infinite Warfare, costing you $80-120.

    Good thing I don't want CoD4 remastered.

As far as OTC goes I was kinda surprised that it's getting a bunch of coverage now. I could have sworn it was in early access for quite a long time, turns out I'm not crazy.

  • Good gameplay and commentary from a tournament OTC game
  • I'm not going to be playing with these spezz mahreens, but I know some of you will be.

  • Neat cinematic, but they gotta show some gameplay if they're gonna hook me. DoW II is plenty to scratch my itch for now.

Tangentially related: The Battlefield devs have some choice words for the Infinite Warfare trailer.

Yeah, it's mostly just mudslinging at the competition, but I got a good laugh out of this.

  • Stellaris is out.
    It's installed on my computer.
I want to go home right now.
  • I'm usually not too into games like these, but from the coverage I've seen of it I'm highly considering getting it. You'll have to let me know more when you've had a chance to play.

I'm curious how this compares to Endless Space. I have Endless Legends, and absolutely love it, but I have a very soft spot in my heart for scifi 4x games.
  • I'm not sure how well it compares to the Endless games. It's like a polished version of EU4 in space.
