If that thing actually bricks ones, it's kinda scary and tells a lot about the quality of it's software. Person should not be able to brick their console that easily.
I honestly believe that consoles are too damn complex. Can't break PS2 or Nintendo with simple method like that and those work like console should. Game in, power on, game plays. Simple and efficient, just how it should be.

Yeah but you can break a ps2 by watching too many dvd's. Also, don't forget to delete System32.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear that was the first policy they revoked on. I'm not sure how this is possible. It sort of looks like the issue is actually that someone may have gotten signed out accidentally.
While I appreciate Microsoft loosening the grip on their shitty online software access policy, I think they are fucking dumb for not sticking to their guns on the Kinect support. If they didn't want it required they should have decided that path from the beginning or stuck to their guns about it. I wrote a slightly lengthy comment about it on the other article GB posted:
"I think they should have at least gotten some games worth buying out the door first before revising prices and hardware. Like is anyone here already going to go out and get one ASAP just because there isn't a Kinect? It seems like if there was a game that made someone want the console they would have already bought one. The funny thing is there was such a high demand for the PS4 camera that retailers couldn't keep it in stock, yet everyone is sour on the Kinect.
Disjointing the user experience like that is kinda a joke. They should have just removed the restriction from the start or stuck to their guns if they wanted to push that technology. Now that its optional there is zero reason to ever do anything with the Kinect. I only ever use the voice controls on the Kinect but I support the idea behind trying to improve the technology and find better uses for it.
Aside, I'm curious how the UI will be affected as there are a couple features that I literally can't find any way to get to except using Kinect voice controls (and I've looked around thoroughly for them)."
I find it hilarious, because this comes a month after the head of the Xbox division leaves and is replaced. The new guy wasted no time changing things. Makes me wonder if a lot of these decisions have been unpopular ones internally.

Yeah, were the previous decisions unpopular, or are the new ones? There are still whispers of Microsoft selling or splitting off the XBox division.
The changes on LIVE are great, but I think making the Kinect optional is a mistake. I've tried the Xbox One with the Kinect and I thought it was awesome. Just like with Windows 8 (which I also love), sometimes you can't go forward without burning some bridges.
I know people who love Kinect, but I also know that a lot of people dislike that it was mandatory, and that UI elements were often inaccessible without it.
Removing its requirement will fix that problem, which will make some people happy. But it will segment developers and make it so not everyone has the same hardware, which will make it so games almost never use the Kinect, turning it into a lump of plastic. Once again, it's just a way to screw over early adopters.

I have not found a way to get to the marketplace if you don't have access to the headlines to the right of the main page on the home interface and even then its just like using the API for it and not actually launching the application. Only by saying "Xbox go to store" or something have I had any success getting there. I searched thoroughly for the actual application before resorting to that as well. I'm curious how they're going to have to restructure things to work. Also, I haven't used it much, but I've heard the snapping of applications is a pain in the ass if you don't use the voice commands.
More or less. PS+ has released some pretty noteworthy titles so far. The first list of Xbox games is pretty decent. I always wanted to play some Charlie Murder, but I don't really want to move my 360 back into the living room. I've been using it as a DVD player in my room.

You think it's awesome, but before the Xbone came out, a shitload of people thought it was going to spy on you all the time using Kinect. A lot of people still think it does.
I'm not even kidding, that's the biggest reason for the massive push-back on it.
Jeff Gerstmann talks about how his old roommate used to put a piece of paper over the 360 Kinect every time he would play it because he wasn't sure if it was doing that.

I know. And I maintain my opinion that those people were, and are, fucking stupid. They are the reason we still buy games on disc.
I like how that article conveniently failed to mention that Playstation Now does require a subscription, but it also gives you access to the entire catalog. Xbox isn't charging because its just an emulation patch. Also apparently the list of "backwards compatible" games is laughable.
Now everyone can play 1% of the 360 library on their new console! What a steal!
Real backwards compatibility is supported through hardware. A software emulator should support at least 90% of the original games, especially if the same company wrote it.

I hit reset on these XBox sets
