  • Really getting back into the game after a long break. Who wants to help me refine my Tracer skillz?
  • Hey now, what we lack in skill, coordination, communication, and skill, we make up for in waves of D.Va corpses piled on top of a Bastion's rapidly shrinking line of sight.
  • I've noticed when we were comping a lot of the fights went: Scojo jumps in on Winston -> I follow him on Zarya -> there's not enough DPS followup so we both die without getting kills -> everyone dies

I always figure I have backup and I'm almost always disappointed ^_^

But really when I leap as Winston to the other side of the map I want the rest of the team to attack from the other side not try and get to me. I'm jumping over to lay a shield and cause havok to the back line and hopefully super monkey and if not super monkey jump back if I'm still alive once it cools down. I'm pretty much trying to provide 6 seconds of distraction in between jumps.

Ironically I think our weakness generally is in MAIN DPS. We all tend to enjoy Defensive characters, tanks and support but we all tend to avoid Aggressive characters (Genji, Tracer, McGree, Reaper) only Soldier gets regular play.

  • You know DPS can't really work when the tanks are gone... If Winston goes back line, as he should, he should be distance supported by Zarya, Zenyatta, Ana. But he shouldn't go too deep. Meanwhile, one tank babysits the DPS so they can aim instead of running away from the team who just sees a tasty pile of squishies.

But, overall, I agree. Team really needs to work on coordination. I think it helps to have healer calling the moves because they have health infrasight on the team, and can read the position best. But that also means that people have to listen. I've had times calling as healer where teammates completely disregarded what they had agreed to a second earlier. When I say speed boost rush through choke, it does not mean stand and fight, esp if you are dva who slows to a standstill when shooting. Also, primary tanks (rein & dva esp) have to hold up the shield if there are people standing behind/inside it, not charge in with no warning, leaving the rest to dry.

I agree with everything you say here. I long for the nights when enough people are on to execute this.

Lately, I'm just happy to have a team with a healer. I don't know what's with quickplay people. I've had to jump on heal way more than my fair share.

  • I played a game last night with a Lucio named Cloudkicker. <3

Next time we do a 6v6 custom and don't have match-wide voice chat someone should set up a Discord. It's essentially TeamSpeak only nobody has to bother with hosting, and it's worked reasonably well for a multiplayer HoI4 game I did.

And it has a browser client so people can be brought in without having to bother downloading a client.

  • I think that's a great idea. I also think if we can manage, two spectators to coach the teams might be helpful. I wish spectators could see the overall stats of each player though. All you can really do right now is watch their ultimate build.
  • I'm down. I want to be better. Let me know. Totally open to criticism.
  • I don't think a coach would be useful. It's better to develop gamesense while playing and not rely on a bird in the sky.
  • Found a guide that might be of use for coordinated plays. Guide gives call out names for each part of the maps. http://kingsrow.uk/callouts/
  • Bird in the sky can point out specific bad habits you might not realize as quickly on your own.
  • I messaged a link to the discord to a few people. Please spread it

I would prefer AAR to real-time feedback. Let me focus on the game and improve in game communication rather than rely on realtime feedback.
  • Not rely on, the coaching would be with the goal of developing a better game sense on your own. Sometimes when I'm spectating, I see things like, mercy healing when she should switch to boosting DPS. Or team not focusing down Zenyatta discord. Or people trickling in. Or the opposite, when the opposing team has 3 down and everyone is too timid to push. Or when someone's hero choice just isn't working but they're too stubborn to switch. Or if another team member does a significant % of damage, the rest of the team is usually unprepared to support them or handle the added pressure if they fall. My favorite, when people take a longer and objectively worse path the objective since the shortest path isn't obvious. Should people be aware of this stuff already? Absolutely. Just like someone playing sports needs to develop accurate heuristics and self awareness. But it can be hard or less efficient to process those things on your own in the moment.

I think as a tracer player, you are forced to make those decisions a lot faster and be more aware than most.

That definitely makes sense. I can see room for both, I suppose I just have a personal preference.
  • Ate some people alive earlier as Zarya. Had a fantastic team with a great rein, solid heals and both soldier and hanzo keeping flanks clean and following through on ults. Got my first Zarya 20 kill streak, and some compliments from the team. So fun to have a game come together like that.
  • I still play occasionally. People can hit me up on the battle net if you need another.
  • Don't ever change Hanjo.
  • I did something similar with an alt on WoW during arena season one. As you get low enough, you start to run into people that are unbelievably bad and unbelievably angry about it.

This is what you support, Ro.
  • You were playing as Reaper, you have no right to be hating on my awesome spray.
  • I vote we use that, and only that, spray in all competitive matches henceforth.
  • It's the best spray.
