The most notable anime I've watched over the past few weeks was a music video from the 2014 Japan Animator Expo titled "ME!ME!ME!". It's far less gratuitous than one may first think.
Just started rewatching Gundam Seed. Never realized how similar Lacus and Nia Tepplin from Gurren Lagann are. That had to be on purpose, given how much homage Gurren pays to other mecha shows.
I have no problem with the story or plot of SM:C. My problem is the lack of heart, artfulness, and attention in the execution. It's like IBM made an anime.
I just finished a roughly year-long effort to watch all of the Legend of the Galactic Heroes that there is to watch. That show really, really clicks with me.

Akame ga Kill... Just finished up the series. Started slow but has a lot of good characters. I almost stopped watching because it began to look like a harem show.
Also... Later seasons of SAO are good. Once Kirito moves into being more of a background character the show gets much better.
I wish SAO had taken a more...Stand Alone Complex tone? I would have love to see more of how people reacted psychologically to their predicament, they could've even done the same philosophical points within the context of the SAO story and I would've been happy. But instead I got a creepy, incesty harem with a Gary Sue.

I completely agree. SAO had a fair amount of untapped potential. It's a pity that there are so many shows, not just anime, with great concepts but lackluster execution.

I'm catching up on some missed anime from the last few seasons. Finished up the new season of Psycho Pass (not recommended) and am working through Shirobako (is recommended).
The plot is really dumb and obvious, and the new characters are all weaksauce. The police squad is a collective black hole of stupid to not be able to figure out the "bad guy", and the "twist" was telegraphed from episode one without any subtlety.
It was a thoroughly unenjoyable experience that I watched solely to see how stupid it could get.
I was meh on it. I enjoyed the first half, but the second couldn't keep me interested because the show completely failed to make me care for Kogami at all.
Well I enjoyed all of those futuristic societal think points, however there was no real climax to the story. Just a conversation with a kid in a library.
I was disappoint that after all that happened, nothing seem to change the world or the characters, that we can really appreciate.
For example the think tanks by the end were practically sentient, and gave their life to save Batou. Ooo feelings.
Then they were trivially resurrected. Feelings -1
The sacrifice wasn't real if there was no loss.
Section 9: Survive (Don't worry we're just throwing you in prison) Shoot Major in the head: She has a backup
Same old body, same old personality, despite having merged with the 'laughing man'.
Comments
Fuck that half-assed noise.
But on the other hand, the alien arc in Sailor Moon finally ended!
Well, not literal shit.

Had a good build up of tension, only to end with inconsequential character state reset.
