Yesterday I lent my copy of Stein's Gate to a friend. When I watched the show I went into it cold. I knew absolutely nothing about it and had a very thrilling experience.
On a whim we watched the US trailer to give him an idea of what the show is about. I am sorry I did that. This is related to that other thread about spoilers.
While the trailer did not spoil the show it did ruin some of the shocks and surprises of the show and I am sorry I had him watch it. He agreed not to let his wife see the trailer. After they watch the series I intend to talk to them about it and see how different each of them reacts to the way the story unfolds.
I was going to make a comment about more back story reveals for the Bebop crew but... No. It has enough reveal and the empty spaces are just minor issues that have no direct impact on the story.
The new yatterman blew my expectations out of the water. I thought it was gonna be some comedy thing, but no, it turns into a pretty emotional exploration of what it means to be a villain vs a hero, proving also that the old adage, "you live long enough to see yourself turn into the villan", is applicable in reverse to villains as well.
Possibly my favorite episode opener of this season.
I started re-watching Eureka Seven. Its better than I remembered. I liked it before but I was afraid that it was mostly because it was a mecha anime and I didn't have a lot of anime at my disposal at the time. I'm still annoyed at how the pronounce Eureka though.
Just finished Psych Pass Season 1. Is Season 2 worth watching? Also starting JoJo now. As an aside Bebop is great, easily still my favorite anime of all time.
Season 2 of PsychoPass apparently went to shit. I'm glad I waited for the overall consensus before making decision.
As for steins gate, I agree with dazzle with the starting dryness. I distinctly remember getting more and more annoyed, and then a particular scene with a particular microwave happened, and that entire sequence made my hairs stand on end.
I had never had that happen to me in anime before. This usually only occurs to me in Fiction, like when I was reading Arthur C Clark's Rama for the first time. It was a combination of both the horrors and fantastical of the unknown, and somehow, that scene distilled that emotion.
Even though I have yet to go through all of it (one day), that one scene justified my time with the series.
I can't get by the stupid characters in Steins Gate, I'll probably give it a chance again but I was turned off by the stereotypical female anime characters.
I saw the first episode when it aired and stopped. It was several years later when I marathoned it. You have to get past the first few episodes then it turns into a great show.
Big steaming infodump from Izaya about his little sisters in DuRaRaRa!!x2 ep 2 kinda turned us off a little. We're still gonna keep watching, but couldn't help chuckling over that. Like 5 straight minutes of exposition through monologue.
Your Lie in April is made of feels. Expect to cry. A lot.
I've been watching this one. I cried a little. It's a little overwrought in places and a little cliche in places. Hulu seems to stop at ep 14, so I think this is an ongoing show? I'm used to watching series that are all done already.

I agree with everything in this review other than the last point made (the negative) because it's just his personal frustration that he wanted more stories.

You know what I could do with more of...
INFERRRNO COPP
Death Parade episode 1 was interesting, looking forward a bit to more episodes and seeing more characters come up.
Durarara season 2 appears to be maintaining the first season's quality, which is great, but it's on the cusp of just having too many characters.
In older anime news, I've been watching Mushi-shi and it's thoughtful and melancholy and pretty and bloody wonderful.
Possibly my favorite episode opener of this season.

Namely Firefly.
The main characters were the least interesting. The focus is diffuse, having self contained episodes, the main character stories spread far a wide.
Each episode felt like a filler episode.
That mushroom episode was the worst.
Attack on Titan isn't back till 2016. What to fill this time with?
May try out this Steins Gate thing.
Don't now what a stein is, but I do know a thing about gates.
I don't think I'll watch anymore.
