Surfing various nanotech pages online i came across a engineer named K. Eric Drexler who hypothesized the Grey goo theory, at first i tried Drexler however someone on the Ragnarök server i frequent already had the name so i shortened it to drex and its stuck ever since.
'Uglyfred" came about when I wanted to choose a more gender-neutral instant messenger name; I adopted it from a very ugly picture I had drawn at the time, the subject of which was nicknamed "Fred."
It was when I was creating a G-mail account. I had just read the 2nd Pern novel (my first). I tried a couple of the dragon species. Green, brown, gold... they were all taken. So I tried some colors and materials that weren't in the book. I decided to intentionally spell "bronze" wrong. It has been my name ever since.
I've been a big fan of Sonic The Hedgehog for as long as I can remember. For gaming I use the name Ensane Affliction, or Ensanity when there isn't enough room for the full name.
Funny thing about Apreche... until my daughter was about 5 years old she always pronounced "computer" as "A-Pre-key"... I'm going to guess that you pronounce "Apreche" the same way?

For starters, I had to make a user name for a Yahoo mailing list. Of course, everything I initially wanted was taken. So I just mixed different combinations together and: LadyObsolete.
Of course, it's not just random words. I felt that current trends have rendered awesome people, well, obsolete. When in truth, it just takes a bit of sifting through the internet to find them. I come across places like GeekNights and have my faith in humanity momentarily redeemed.
I studied Macbeth around the same time I created my first email account, which was on Excite, during the pre-Google dark ages. I can't recall the exact reasoning for choosing the name thaneofcawdor, but I guess it was unique at the time and was somewhat exotic/obscure.
So far only four or five people have picked the reference (one of them on this forum), which I suppose means they are for the win.
Eventually I started playing the AOL-embedded MUD Gemstone III. I had to choose a name for that which did not have numbers. I tried all sorts of Arthurian and Middle-Earthian names, but they were, of course, all taken. I eventually tried Apache, but that was taken as well. A slight spur of the moment modification to Apreche totally worked. Up to this day I think I am the only person who uses this as my name on teh Intarwebs. Also it is apparently not a word in any language with a Roman alphabet. Although, it does appear to be a rare typo in a few languages.
My screen name comes from the fact that my name is Walter Vieira Bettencourt III. WallyBman was also my account name with Snowhill, my first ISP, way back in the mid 90's (94, or maybe 95).
Sparhawk is the main character in two book series by one of my favorite authors David Eddings, and when I was trying to pick an AIM handle about 8 years ago it was one of the first things to come to mind.
Chemical bass=what I call when you use a guitar slide on a bass. XD Cielmort=name I use everywhere but here, it was taken from the name of one of my EHD and means deadsky. The wired=SE:L reference.
My full username is usually magicjarvis. (Coming from the fact that i used to play Magic the Gathering and my name is Jarvis.) Magic is the shortened version of that name.
Viga_D_Son is just my first and last name broken up. It started as my art alias when I sign my work and my college nickname. I also introduce myself to new people as Viga because I'm tired of being called Vikki. Then I started using it online to replace an older moniker I grew tired of.
When my friends and I were younger, we would do what was pretty much live action fan fiction. My character's name was Leonardo Asalpha Galiul (stupid name, I know) which was shortened to Li. A few years later, a friend and I were planing on making a web comic and my character's name was Li. I have been working on the web comic since then and my character's name eventually became Kaminari "Li" Akahi.
I am, in fact, the largest fish in the ocean. For serious.
The name came about in high school where, as a perpetually bored student doing work vastly below his intellectual capacity, I had this tendency to yawn. A lot. One sharp classmate at one point commented on it, saying that my gaping yawn resemble a whale shark feeding in the ocean. There was also some business about Cocoa Puffs (I don't remember how they came up exactly), but the whale shark thing stuck and became my moniker for my entire senior year.
It has stuck to this day. It's fairly appropriate because I do have a fondness for water, and I'm generally far gentler (usually) than my large size would lead you to believe.
For me, it started in middle school with a friend of mine whose last name was "Mu." Somehow we got to calling him cow (for obvious reasons, considering the mind of a 6th grader), and then the frantic rush began to give everyone names...this same friend started calling me Roach, which is kinda similar in pronunciation to the first syllable of my real name, Roshan, and it stuck. To this day I tend to use variations of "roach" on teh intertubes, including stuff like "rabidroach" (which unfortunately other people have started to use) and even cooler variations like "blatta," which is the Greek name for cockroach.
Half the reason is that Symmetry is a cool quality that makes all sorts of problems much easier to solve. Second, its really hard to Google and find out what is me, so it makes it just a bit harder to track me on the internet. I used to have a habit of putting things like "Knight of the Lambda Calculus" and "Distinguished Assassin" in my .sigs on webforums so it was relativly easy to track me from the internet to real life, but I didn't want it to be that easy to do the other way around.
My name came about as a product of watching anime in 5th(?) grade. I believe Yosho was from something that came right before Tenchi, and I was just beginning to learn swordsmanship (hence Katana). It's stuck with me since, to the extent of people actually calling me "Yosho" in real life. (Some call me Yoshi to irritate me. it does.) My aim screenname might even be older than that, and I tried to change it (to yoshokatana) awhile ago. Unfortunately, I registered that name under a pre-gmail yahoo account, which is now lost. I cannot remember the password.

I often use 'HellsPatriot', because when I created that name it was Unique. Now I google it and get other people
If I can, I just use 'Daz' these days.
kon = comic relief Bleach character
isteh = poor grammar
rad = like keytars
That about explains it.
