Jesus christ, if you replaced James Hetfield with a drunk, crazy homeless guy, you'd only notice by counting the tattoos.
Well, James is (or was) 2 out of 3 of those things, and being that he was in a band, he was probably almost homeless at various times when he was writing stuff.
Goddamnit, now I keep hearing GIMME FOO GIMME FAA GIMME DABAJABAZA in my head andit just doesn't stop being funny.
I think it took me 8 or so years to find out the real lyrics. I always thought it meant "Gimme Double Genocide." Oh well.
Here's the new song from the upcoming Iron Maiden Album. Any thoughts? I wish Bruce Dickenson's voice could stay perfect forever...that would make the song bliss. Really awesome all around.
I have to be honest - and maybe it's because I've listened to a LOT of Metallica in my life - but I really don't get why "Fuel" is being singled out as the example of slurred lyrics. I generally find it to be fairly intelligible. I have a feeling that the bandwagon effect is in play here.

I think it's because the first lyrics of the song are somewhat unintelligible, and that's the first thing you hear. However, I enjoy most metallica songs, it's just that I enjoy making fun of everything more.
I've been put off by Coheed's past few albums, I just never found them as compelling as their early work. However, their most recent album Year of the Black Rainbow is quite impressive. I mention it here as the have taken a much more prog-metal turn instead of some of their early prog-rock/pop. While not quite metal, I though most people who follow this thread would be interested in it. That or maybe I'm the only prog-metal fan here...
And for those of you who are not interested, here is a history of metal:

While investigating Dutch metal, I discovered something wonderful.
From Wikipedia: "Ayreon is a project by Dutch composer and musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's musical style derives mostly from heavy metal and progressive rock, but combines them with genres like folk, classical and electronica to form what some call a completely new style of music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, each represented by a unique vocalist."
"Ayreon's music is characterized by the use of traditional instruments in rock music (guitars, bass guitar, drums, synthesizers, electric organs) mixed with instruments more native to folk and classical music (i.e. mandolins, violins, violas, celli, flutes, sitars and didgeridoo). Lucassen writes the music and the lyrics, sings and plays instruments on all of the Ayreon albums, alongside many guest musicians..."
So, I recently found out something interesting about this song:
Apparently, when Malefic did the vocals for this, they locked him in a casket. That's understandable on its own; casket usage isn't too weird for Sunn 0))). However, what I just found out is that the casket was double mic'd, one inside, one outside, which also wouldn't be so bad, except that Malefic is horrifically claustrophobic. The breathing and "vocals" on the track are really the terrified screams and hyperventilation of a man convinced he is going to die alone, in pitch blackness, in a wooden box--but is still attempting to finish his performance.
Tickets start at $666 apiece. You can't make this shit up.
Not sure if want.
As a microbiologist, I'm sort of wary of cruise ships in general. However, as we all know, adding metal to anything automatically makes it super fucking awesome.
The idea, at the very least, kicks all sorts of ass.
The ship is a standard Royal Caribbean, and one of the performers is Amon Amarth. That's enough to make me wish I could go, but I can't afford it or miss that week of school.

They're kind of awesome.
