They're actually a relatively old band. They've been on my radar for a while, but I've just recently actually sat down to listen to them.

This is a radio edit of this song. The actual song is twice as long and builds quite a bit more. Some of their stuff is impossibly brutal, moreso than Nile at times.

EDIT: So last night, I was hanging out with my friend Mike, who plays guitar in a local metal band called A Skin for Dancing In. They used to be Son of Mourning, but they changed their sound and came up with a new name. The drummer, also named Mike, came over later with the master for their forthcoming EP.

That was a pretty fucking metal moment for me: sitting in a friend's house, listening to the master of their EP for the very first time.

EDIT THE SECOND: Mike the drummer also possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of metal that surpasses that of any otherwise sane or rational person. So, I came away with a bunch of awesome band suggestions. I'm currently in the process of checking them out.

Altar of Plagues is my new favorite thing ever.

    oh hey lookit that
He was tweeting about how he couldn't decide if he should go with a new cover design, or use a girl's face yet again. I guess we know the answer now. I've marked my calendar.

Also, pay close attention to the track titles.

    Half Life 2
    "Nova Prospekt"

    Death Note
    "World of Light"
    "Shinigami"

    They are our people.

No. I'm just saying that the people in the Machinae Supremacy are extremely culturally similar to the people here and to the attendees of PAX. Those are our people.

    Ahhh, I see.
And I really like them now after looking them up on youtube.... Good to know that our people are achieving great things.

So I've been listening to After the Burial and I'm really digging it, along with All Shall Perish.

PA should try to get them to play at PAX one year.

I have been pushing for this for many years.
  • I was incredibly underwhelmed by Machinae Supremacy's previous album. It was far too melodic metalcore for my tastes. Let's hope this one is better.

I do not like them very much.

Also, I thought Overworld was a lot better than their second album. But I think we can at least all agree that their first one owns all.

    Me neither.

I need something with the absurd technicality and melodic prowess of Nile, but with more hatred. I need excellent metal that is nigh-unlistenably evil. I need something heart-blackening.

    Suggestions?

Maybe it's just me but isn't Nile already pretty fucking angry? Granted it's a little more tung in cheek due to the subject material that they work with, but they are pretty much the most brutal band I listen to.

    Not angry enough.
  • Nile is brutal, but not particularly hateful. Skitliv is pretty damn evil, but I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for.

If you're interested in something to bring you up, it's damn near impossible to be sad when listening to Korpiklaani.

Voivod or Strapping Young Lad are as good a place as any to start.

    Ayreon
    Avantasia
    Symphony X
Cynic (first album is more prog death.)
    Daath (progressive death metal)
    Everything by Devin Townsend
    Kamelot
Liquid tension experiment (Dream theater side project.)
    Mastodon
Tarot (Nightwish's bassist original band, more powerish, but has it's proggy moments.)

You came to the right place. :)

You should check out A Skin for Dancing In. Very technical and aggressive blackened death metal.
  • Pete, you know how you say that we like metal not because it's stupid, but despite it being stupid? Well...

    I like this.
  • ...Wait, what the fuck was that?!

  • Where has this band been all my life?

    The whitest thing ever.

I found it mildly amusing, but it wasn't my thing.
    I like this.
Despite the fact that it's really really stupid. :P It reminded me vaguely of Green Jelly, actually, in terms of stage antics.
