Actually, they chose their drummer weeks ago. Also, Mike Portnoy asked them if they would accept him back, a proposition which they gave a resound no to.
Yeah, specially after all the high-school like drama he raised up. I still love Mike Portnoy as a drummer, and he is a fun guy, but I seriously lost all respect for him.

Suffice to say, they entered the studio today.
I'm happy too. I saw their last performance with Portnoy still in the band. I wouldn't want to see them dispearse because of the drummers problems.
If he's unhappy with Avenged Sevenfold? That's his fault. They were always pretty bad imo, but now with The Rev gone, they are making some of the worst songs like Welcome to the Family.
There's going to be only one show? It better fuck be in the Meadowlands or something.
Man, I hope they do more than one show. I do understand the sheer difficulty in coordinating the equipment and schedules for 4 different headliners, but still, they have enough money.
Well, OK, Metallica has enough money to pull it off. I've seen Anthrax play for like 100 people...recently. So maybe part of it is the sheer financial commitment required.
Whoah, so awesome. I hope the rest of their repetoire is that good.
Star One is a metal supergroup, a side project of Arjen Anthony Lucassen, who is the dude behind Ayreon.
If you're unfamiliar with Ayreon, they are also a supergroup project, one which has featured contributions from almost every metal musician worth a damn.
There has been an album called Space Metal for NINE YEARS and I only now learn of its existence? Surprised Zombie Dio hasn't taken my soul or something.
Yep, they're having it on the same complex that Coachella is hosted on.
What was that you were saying recently about New York always winning, Scott?
New York does win. In this case Big 4 fails. Facebook comments agree with me, as if that means anything. Even so, these fuckers all tour Europe and travel to multiple places. Meanwhile in the US they do one show, and only one show.
Well, actually, it does make some sense. The Big 4, with the exception of Anthrax, are all from the San Francisco bay area. They went to high school together. They were in classes together. They spawned an entire genre of thrash called, appropriately enough, Bay Area thrash.
So if they were going to choose a venue, I can understand wanting to be closer to their origin. I'm still not happy with it, though.
Just did some brief research and maths out of curiosity, and it looks like the whole ordeal would cost over $1,000, including plane travel, the ticket ($100 + ticketmaster bullshit), hotel for 2 nights, local transportation, and likely expensive food. THANKS, BIG 4.

Yeah, it makes sense. If you are under the assumption you are going to do only one US show, you do it in the place that means the most to you.
The problem is only doing one US show. They fucking toured Europe, which is a lot further away from California than New York. In that whole continent they did many shows. But in the US, they do only one. This is why there is no pity for the musicians complaining about losing the revenue stream of album sales because of piracy. If you want money, you work hard like everyone else and do more than one overpriced show.
A little off-topic here, but people need to stop complaining about Ticketmaster fees. First of all, Ticketmaster now includes the fees in the price right up front so there are absolutely no surprises. Second of all, the fee is part of the ticket price. In this day and age, there is basically no way to buy tickets and avoid fees. LiveNation, Ticketfly, Brown Paper, Artist Arena, they will all charge you fees. Often, even if you buy the ticket in person at the venue box office, they will also still charge you a fee. The fee is a built-in part of the ticket price, get over it. It's how the ticket distributors make money.
I've never heard of paying fees at the actual boxoffice. The fees are how the other companies make money since most of the time they pay the same price you would pay at the boxoffice. If the boxoffices themselves would just get with modern times and sell directly on the internets, service charges would go way down or disappear. Also, I would have to find a new job.
It might just be LA, but I've definitely run into cases where the boxoffice will charge a fee just because they can get away with it since pretty much everyone buys their tickets online these days anyway.
It might also be because some places around here, like Nokia Live I believe, are partnered with Ticketmaster.

I've never seen this either. I've even seen venue owners/workers encouraging customers to buy direct from them specifically to avoid their online partner's bullshit.

You'll like these guys. I promise:
Also, other people might like them too.

So, yes, the music is fucking awesome.
