Also, listen to Shinigami (from the new Machinae album) here. (Click the Speaker button on the upper right, then fast forward about 40 minutes into the show)
Right now, I'm listening to the album Gin by Cobalt. Specifically, I'm listening to "Dry Body." The question is, why aren't YOU listening to Cobalt? It's bleak, epic, progressive, raw, and angry. American black metal is hot shit.

Aw shit, I don't know why I wasn't listening to Cobalt. It seems that all you have to do to get me to enjoy any genre of metal is to inject a little bit of southern sludge. I think bands like Harvey Milk and now Cobalt are going to end up being progressively more extreme gateway drugs.
This nosiy droney sludgey experimental post-black stuff is really hot. It's really helped me to appreciate the utility of noise and minimalism to generate extremely intense soundscapes.
A few thoughts on the concert I went to last night (Overkill, Forbidden, Evile, Gama Bomb, Bonded by Blood, Intox): If you're obese and you're going to a metal concert, that's fine. If you want to mosh, you're pushing it. If you want to mosh with your shirt off, you're crossing the line. Regardless, it was still a fun night. Only witnessed one fight and it lasted no longer than 15 seconds before being promptly broken up. The Montage Music Hall in Rochester is a pretty nice venue, though relatively small. After complaining about by ears this afternoon, a friend bought me a bunch of earplugs, which I will definitely wear to the Scar Symmetry concert in two weeks. If you've not heard of them before, I recommend it. Melodeath mixed with some clean vocals.
So, I heard this really badass Black Label Society song for the past few days, but the weirdest thing about it is that I can't find this song on ANY of their albums. Hell, even typing the name and band into Google, it really gets me nothing. It's kind of weird, that this awesome song is from one of the terrible RB/GH ripoffs, but it's just kind of weird.

Sounds a lot like the Guitar Hero 2 Buckethead Jordan situation. It's a song he really only played live, and didn't record on any album. It was also a song that was sort of different every time he played it. It also fucking rocks your face off.
Because of Geeknights I recently tried a bit of Machinae Supremacy's latest album. I have yet to listen all of if, but I'm kinda liking it. I'm not terribly into metal and at some points it sounds pretty generic, but at least singing is listenable maybe even enjoyable. Also when I started to write this post I listened Crouching Camber Hidden Sniper and I was all "Boo, for being whiners about snipers in your song", but then that one ended and Indiscriminate Murder is Counter-Productive started playing and I was sold.
Not yet sure how I feel about the band, but will definitely go to listen them on a gig they will play here at early December.

Listen to their old free stuff. They started out by doing Commodore 64 covers. It's all on their web site for free.
I'm going to assume that no one actually watched this video that I posted up here earlier in the thread, so I'm giving you guys one more chance. You really owe it to yourself to experience this.
