I was finally able to play all three Mann vs Machine maps and I've got to say... It's way too easy. It's like mowing down scrub players. Killing Floor is way harder than this and a much better game. I thought this was going to be a fun experience I could share with friends for hours, but it only took about an hour to beat all three maps with semi-decent random people. Looks like I have to put on big boy pants and play CS, probably get owned too.

You can play L4D, which is the in-between skill level.

I used to play a lot of CS back when I had roommates. Their favorite map was crackhouse, and we may have missed dinner a few times because of CS greatness. It will just take some time to get use to FPSing again. At least I don't have to worry about random Crit-rockets and the like.
fy_icyworld is pretty fun just for a straight deathmatch. I too played that map a lot, despite it definitely not being "good" in the traditional sense.
Icyworld is a good map from a balanced/use perspective relative to what it is intended for. It servers a purpose well, albeit a simple one.
Crackhouse is unbalanced and poorly laid out. It flows disastrously and is generally a horrible experience no matter what the game mode.
It's telling that almost every server I ever see running it is simultaneously running some janky ass mod.
This is the first time I've ever heard the term janky used outside of MTG circles and I'm not sure the definition that I know would apply. How would you define the term "janky" in this context?
I've not played it yet, care to give a rundown? Or at least, a better one than the summary on the menu?
It's the same as classic Demolition except you automatically get weapons based on how many kills you have. Moves a little faster without people having to buy stuff.

If I want that I play Arms Race and if I want to use guns I can actually hit something with, I play classic.
Estimated wait time 40 min... are you fucking kidding me? I get it, everyone is trying to play this at once, but come on. Also, from what I have seen, it seems silly that you actually need to pick up the money the bots drop, considering they come in a constant stream. This mode is very similar to Killing Floor, but there you get money based on what you killed, no picking it up (except for hidden cash piles/weapons).
Now that I've played it, I have to say I love the money pickup. It gives mobile classes something to do and just makes everything more exciting. If the ideas get developed a little more (which I'm sure they will), I'd call the game anti-tower defense.
It is cool to see how 90% of TF2 translated effectively into this game, though. Still feels like it has some kinks to work out, though.
Half-past midnight was too late. Rylin was up at 4 a.m. needing a bottle and then I was up at 6:15 a.m. for a medical appointment. Now I feel like dying.
I really need to learn how to Rocket Jump properly.
Honestly, Rocket Jumping, Crouch Rocket Jumping, and Reverse Rocket Jumping were the first things I learned in TF2. It's pretty easy. The timing's not terribly hard.
I just never really learned it. Probably need some training, though rocket jumping would probably be more difficult with the Beggars Bazooka which I want to try after trading for it today.
There was an update released yesterday and Valve broke the stairs in the game, or at least on pl_upward. You no longer go up them. Instead you clip right through them. Not sure how they managed to do that, or how they missed it in testing.

This one's pretty nice too:
