So Devin Townsend was awesome live. Tons of fun, lots of energy, and great banter with the crowd.
Cynic was the possibly the largest letdown I've experienced in the world of concert-going. Their show is painfully boring and more pretentious than is strictly necessary. Recordings of spoken ponderings of the meaning of thought? Check. Group stretching exercises? Check. Asking the crowd to join with you in meditation before the next song? Check. Just shut the fuck up and play.
BTBAM are, of course, amazing. This show solidified them as being one of my current top metal bands. They're so talented it almost hurts.

Oh wooow. I guess I don't have to go out of my way to see them. That's really disappointing, and kind of impressive that they could make a show anything but intense with the kind of songs they have.

To be honest, I would avoid seeing them. It's the Necrophagist effect; seeing them live actually diminished my ability to enjoy the music.
This counts as very near future, because it's tonight and I forgot to post about it earlier, but My housemate's band is opening for Municipal Waste tonight, And I'm going along - bonus, my tickets were practically free.
Shit. I think I have to go to this. I've always said I'd drop anything to see Amon Amarth live, and that's what I'm gonna do. Probably only gonna do Saturday only.

So, don't know how many people here know of Gatsby's American Dream, but Bobby Darling of that band has a solo project called Places and Numbers, which I just saw tonight in the same venue my friends from Max Without Wax were playing. It was interesting to watch just one guy up there rocking out. All the bands put on good shows though, so it was $10 well spent.
Yeah, double post, but that's what happens when you unexpectedly go to two concerts two days in a row. Today was Fall of Troy on their final tour. It was AMAZING, and I don't really even know their stuff at all. Sad to see another local band retire.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and when the lead singer/guitarist talks, he sounds just like Scott. Like, scarily similar.

From watching the clips on YouTube, shit's gonna get artsy. But good. Real good.
EDIT: Any of you Rochester-area (or willing to drive far on a Tuesday night) forumites interested?
There's a non-zero chance you will see me there.
I may skip the Friday one, since I hit both concerts at PAX West anyway, and Saturday has all of the acts I really care about.
\m/
Going to see it on the last day, in Bristow, VA.

Gogol Bordello will be there. By extension, so will I.
EDIT: So will The National, Wolfmother, The Flaming Lips, Spoon, Phoenix, The New Pornographers, Devo, and the Arcade Fire.
I am so fucking excited I can't breathe.
