Inconvenient porn? That's one hell of a fetish. "Oh yeah baby. This checkout line is taking forever because the old lady in front of me is using 50 expired coupons. That makes me so hot."
    Is she a GILF?

Going through my work computer and deleting the previous teachers old files/bookmarks/etc. Grim task.
Whoa. That's crazily bad IT policy. For your protection, you should never even have the chance to access the previous teacher's files. A bonded technician, or in the very least someone with a different job description and a signed privacy contract, should be looking at that data. The fact that the PC wasn't wiped out and rebuilt between the two of you bothers me immensely: it exposes both you and the school district to surprising liability.

    Yea that's pretty crazy.
  • Yea that's pretty crazy.
Welcome to public schools, no one knows jack all about anything computers.
  • Like, inconvenient grim or "OMG LOOK AT THIS FUCKED UP PORN" grim? Or "holy shit look at what this kid did" grim?
Recall that he has his job because the previous teacher died.

Ah yes. I can see how that would be awkward.
  • Didn't we always know they were tracking wifi while street viewing? This is how they do geolocation using wifi. Apple bought their service, but google doing it while streetviewing makes their way cheaper.
  • Street View is apparently logging Wifi and MAC addresses as it drives along.Good thing I use wires like someone from the stone age. :P
In what way is this a bad thing? Seems to me anyone has the right to scan for a signal and write down whatever information they want. It's not like your access point's MAC is your Social Security number or anything.
  • If they're just keeping track of AP MAC addresses then it's not that big a deal but, if they also got down laptop MACs they can then, very loosely, tie a computer to a home location.

Given that this is Google, I'd err on the side of whichever hoards them the most data.

In point of fact, it is a private school, not a public school.
Also, it was grim task to look through that stuff because the previous teacher died.
  • I think I now know what purgatory feels like. I'm sitting in a university course on a saturday which is mandatory to finish off my bachelor, even though it has very little to do what with the Bachelor. It's a course about technology assessment and I have to listen to a bunch of presentations about topic such as e-government, traffic technology and online privacy, except there is little in those presentations I don't know already, it's boring as all fuck and worst of all, about every two minutes the university network I'm currently in disconnects me.

And in two weeks I get to do the same shit again, woohoo....
  • I'm riding a bus... What part of my brain thought this was a good idea is beyond me.
  • I'm riding a bus... What part of my brain thought this was a good idea is beyond me.
    The cheapass part!
  • It's a false economy, this seat is so hard and uncomfortable. Also bolt offers "more legroom" which leads me to believe that I wouldn't fit on a regular bus. I have more legroom in my drivers seat, and that has pedals.

Apparently alt+backspace on the droid is pure evil.

More along the lines of "Previous teacher died of lukemia and that's how I got the job" grim.
  • This is not a fail of my day, more like a sadness of my day as Friday was a day of great pain for me. These are two pictures of myself with people I've known forever and have worked with on theater productions for a very long time, but Friday was the last time I ever collaborated with them as it was the last production of the year. I know I've said time and time again that I've cried at something or I've cried while I'm typing something, I'm a big exaggerator so that's where that issue lies. I'm telling you that I really am crying right now because of how much a family we've become and how sad it is that we won't get to work again. But that's life, so what can ya do.

While not quite to the point of tears, I've felt much the same after every production I've done. Not to say I felt less, but I have a very high threshold before I get teary.

I don't care that he's "selling out" or whatever, but from what I'm reading, the evidence to support this technology is shaky at best.

That's the thing; Bill Nye the Science Guy is promoting pseudoscience. The guys gotta make a living, but it is a bit sad to see.
  • Sounds like that would just dissolve ozone into the water. Similar to oxygen-based cleaners and all that jazz.

I have no idea as to the efficacy of this product. If it is bullshit, then I just lost all respect for Bill Nye.

My kitchen cabinets have resisted screws, hammers, drills, screwdrivers, and even broken a drill bit while attempting to install childproofing locks to keep the dogs out.

He's an accomplished Mechanical engineer. He designed a Pressure resonance supressor that's still used in the 747 today, Sundials for the Mars rovers(which help keep track of time, and also provide colour calibration for various imaging devices), Holds the patents for the Digital abacus, the 'Toe Shoe" used in Ballet, and an Educational Magnifying glass, was a professor at Cornell from 2001 to 2006, and was a consultant in the aeronautics industry for some time, and regularly works on Who Wants to be A Millionare, as well as various guest appearances, and hosting his own show, "Stuff Happens".
The Guy is not hard up for money, nor needed to take the job to make a living.

Also, It can't be discounted that the guy got taken in by a scam, dude's human, he makes mistakes like the rest of us - After all, it's not his speciality field, and it sounds reasonable, on the face of it - there is such a thing as an Electrolytic Bleach Generator, after all, which produces bleach in much the same way as this product could, potentially(But doesn't), and we don't know exactly how they pitched it to him. These devices are utter BS, but we don't know if he knows this from the information he has or how he might know that.

There is also the point that he's not just shilling the product, but is also on the board of directors, however, for a privately held company of an unknown internal structure, that could mean bugger all.

APB is a strange game. It's like the developers smashed a standard MMO framework and GTA together until they fused into a terrible lump of mediocre, parallelized third person shooter and non-sequiter fetch quests that are artificially elongated by dull travel and random timers. That is if you can get anywhere with the game's vehicle physics, of course, which roughly approximate the experience of steering a cheap bobsled down a mountain of butter covered in indestructible trees and innocent bystanders that sprint directly into the instant-death-machine that is your front fender. I really shouldn't have got my hopes up for this one; it's just another crappy MMO.

I'm having a ton of fun with this game. I've invested about 10 hours at this point into it. I do like WoW though...

The enjoyable parts of this game are in a group, which, thankfully, you can do for the whole game. Having a huge shootout is really a lot of fun, and when everyone is piled up in the van hanging out guns blazing flying down the street, it's exactly what I want from a game like this. Besides, it's still in closed beta, what do you want?

Locational damage, less instancing, and less advantage to the people with better gear. I can forgive the clunky interface and unresponsive controls, but those three things kill the game for me, and I can only see them fixing one of them.

Plus, now I think about it, I could just play GTA 4. All I need is a Live subscription and I've got 8 on 8 competition with everything I want out of the action in APB and none of the metagame bullshit.

I had a slight operculum over one of my wisdom teeth. I went to a party after a successful conference and slipped into a state that allowed me to prod it to such a point that it disappeared and began to bleed. Fuck.

Odd. I've only experienced that while the phone was being charged.
