  • That sucks, my thoughts go with you and your family.
  • Hope she caught it quick.
  • She did, it's a real relief. Things aren't nearly as bad as they could be.

That's awful, and she'll probably get through it. My grandmother had breast cancer in her 60s and lung cancer in her 80s and she is still around. They caught it early both times. With all the awesome treatments there are now, your mom should be fine.

  • I replied to a Youtube comment. Holy fucking shit, the torrent of stupid I was temporarily assaulted with was soul shattering.
  • Apparently, part of Oscar Pistorius's defence is that he was taking "herbal supplements". Which turned out to be a homeopathic testosterone booster for men with low sexual function.

Yeah, lemmie know how that turns out for you, buddy.
  • Guess who had to climb into a fucking restaurant dumpster today to retrieve a pair of keys from one of dozens of identical garbage bags because apparently it's a good idea to just keep the keys on the counter above the garbage can despite that fact this has apparently happened multiple times before?

Still, best wishes that the treatment goes well.
  • One of the people that I went to college with is exposing Zionist conspiracy theories. Like she is convinced that the Jews see themselves as a master race and are intending to conquer the world. This is also the same person that ran for a postion as womens officer, its more equalites but good luck trying to change that, and refused to have any male help as "they aren't women so they shouldn't bother trying, you just don't understand". She wondered why she didn't win.

Seems to be quite a lot of that on the lunatic fringe of feminism. One of the worst cases I think of are a lot of battered women and children shelters refusing to allow male children in with their mothers if they are older than 12 or so simply because they are male.

We had a similar problem in uni where our womens officer refused to accept that male rape happend and that gay men should find their own representative. Yeah she was great, you know till it turned out she had been using her position to seduce freshers.

There can only be so much "quite a lot" before you have to stop calling it a fringe. I don't claim to have those numbers, but anecdotally I sure do agree with "quite a lot".

Egalitarianism absolutely has merit. Feminism will always be stigmatized by the vocal minority. The Men's Rights movement is poisoned even worse by the same sort of thing.

I know one can only shout vocal minority so much, but using the fringe as a reason not to call yourself a feminist is, dare I say it, pretty dumb.

Yes, most feminists are entirely reasonable egalitarianists. A lot of Men's Rights folks also tend to be pretty reasonable as well in pointing out certain things that often get overlooked by society while calling out the hypocrisy of the more extreme feminists. Both sides have their lunatics that make the reasonable ones look bad.

Dude, my mom went through breast cancer and has been cancer free for years, but the drugs fucked up her system bad and she's still dealing with the consequences. But overall, better than dead from cancer. If you/she need any support sources, I am happy to ask mum for some links.

At this point breast cancer support is pretty well spread, and she can probably find a good local network by talking to her doctors and looking for hair salon/wig shops that specialize in cancer patients. Those hair shops seem to have all the social info on the cancer groups, and if you go in for a pre-treatment consultation they will make you feel at home and will talk to you about your diversity of head covering options like they are excited at the prospect of you having so many choices. I'm sure she's going to be spending some time wrapping her head around the reality of the situation, but really the best thing you can do is just be there periodically to talk to her and do things you would normally do together. Sick people don't like to be abandoned or marginalized. It gets lonely.

  • Roxxy sprained her ankle, and I don't get to see her until Sunday.
  • I am continually reminded of how racist my family is. And they wonder why I try not to hang around them.
  • The Swing Dance community in AZ is in the middle of a passive aggressive Facebook fight.

I haven't danced regularly in nearly 8 years, and have always missed it to some extent.

    Suddenly I don't miss dancing.
  • I've noticed that happens quite a bit in the Lindy Hop community.
  • It does. I took time off from dancing for the better part of a year after one particular bit of drama ten years ago, but couldn't stay away. Then I met my wife and stopped having time to go out regularly. Part of me has always wished I could make time to go, until now.
  • I would love to see how one of those arguments goes down. I have to much of a sharks vs jets vibe in my head.

The navy is no longer supplying toilet paper, the navy exchange is closed for the night it was Mexican food day at the galley, and all I have is a copy of the navy times. (crumple crumple)

  • After teaching MacBeth for several weeks, I asked my students to write a response to several prompts. Several students did not know that Lady MacBeth killed herself...Spoilers?...or that MacBeth dies. Did I fail or did they?

The one thing I learned from being a TA is that there are just certain kids that aren't going to care. No matter how you try and break it down to them and get them interested, if they don't have any interest in a genre, the writing type, or just don't care about succeeding in life they won't try and learn it. That being said it also sounds like there was some miscommunication. Shakespeare is fucking hard to figure out sometimes simply because of the language. Also most parents don't give a shit to encourage the value of reading so their kids don't find any value in it. You may need to just walk them through it a little more, even if you shouldn't have to.

I even fucking told him that we just shut down all of our testing capacity today. All equipment offline and packed up.

Fortunately, he ain't in charge, so we can ignore him.

But seriously, how do you get your head that far up your ass?

    Crowbar.

They failed. I had roughly a week to read that book (I was transferred into the class a month into the year) and I at least got that much.
  • Cats have discovered that Max is indeed a tiny person with tiny hands that he can use to pet them! Now they're attacking his door and waking him up in the middle of the night.

There is a horrible war going on in my intestines and I don't think there can be any positive outcome at this point. James and Max appear to be unscathed. :(

Random strangers grabbed my kid when I got groceries. When I asked them what they were doing and to stop they told me, "It's OK mama, see he's smiling." When did it become ok to touch random babies you have never met before?
