  • Major booyah: Found the tea I was looking for for ages in a plastics store. Oh, Samoa Chai Tea, how I missed thee!

The Lion King is one of my favorite Disney movies, but ever since I learned about the breeding dynamics of lion prides, I have to turn off the biologist portion of my brain completely when I watch it.

I have a similar problem, but more from a psychology stand point. So was Scar a nickname, or was he really named Scar from birth? I feel like that's kind of setting up the cub for problems from birth.

It just makes Mufasa and Scar stone cold pimps in my opinion.

They'd also biologically probably also be having sex with each other.
    Just sayin'.

    I bet that's the subject of at least three doujinshi ;_;

    No doubt, and fanfictions too.
  • Furry yaoi? I'll be honest and say that that grosses me out.
  • Furry yaoi? I'll be honest and say that that grosses me out.
The Venn diagram on furry and yaoi media has the "Furry" circle about 80% consumed by the vastly-larger "yaoi" circle, I'd reckon, if my fujoshi friends and my experience with 4chan is to be believed.

  • Nah, it's more like 60-40. 4chan purposefully chooses mostly the yaoi because it scares people. They like that.
  • Boo-Yah: making out while the quesadillas cook.

Both things by themselves aren't of my liking, but both things... Hell no. Just hell no. I don't mind that happening in nature because that's how life is, but knowing people go ga-ga over animal gay porn... Just HELL no.

Shit, man, House of M was pretty bad, but that's no call to cook and eat the guy.

  • I made it through shaving with my safety razor and only drew blood once.

I can consistently not draw blood with the grain, but against it all bets are off.

What? Don't shave against the grain with your safety razor. Just lightly splash your face with some warm water, and give it another quick pass with the grain - well, if you're using shave soap. I don't know how well that will go with canned foam.

If you must shave against the grain, just switch to a generic multi-blade to do that part.

Put simply - Your razor should cut through the hairs, not scrape them out of your skin. It's like a scythe, not a shovel.

I don't just jump to against, I'll do two passes for when I need to fancy up a bit. I've got really thick facial hair so I always look unshaven, even just after a shave. Going against minimizes that, but it's a hassle.

Proper shaving soap does make a huge difference. Tried it once when I first got it and my tub of Taylor's hadn't yet arrived and it was better than cartridge, but still not good enough.

In other things, I found a loving home for my beanbag chair. I'm going to be moving well away and there's no room for it at my parents' house.

In that case, grab a bag of cheap multi-blades from Crazy Clarks or something, and use them for the against-the-grain strokes - saftey razors are just not designed for it, the blade angle is all wrong for it, and you'll most likely tear up your face. It's real harsh on the skin, and you'll come off looking more like you've been attacked with a butcher's knife than a clean-shaven gent. Multi-blade razors, on the other hand, are made to shave both ways, and it'll be easier on your face, and you'll get a closer shave.

Curiously, Against the grain is perfectly fine with a straight razor - but that's a different issue, since you're controlling the blade angle by hand, rather than having a small window between "Not shaving anything" and "Peeling your face like a carrot" that you have to work within to get a good shave.

Proper shave soap is ace. When you get your shave soap in, try a splash of warm water and a follow-up pass, still going with the grain, and see how it goes for you. Even if it doesn't work, you should have enough lather left in your brush to lather up for the against the grain pass.

  • My problem is that I have a bumpy lower jaw, so even though I go with the grain and barely apply pressure (cut the hair, not the skin) it can still draw blood sometimes. I do need better shave soap though.
  • Nice. That looks pretty good. Any other suggestions? I've just been buying whatever the crap is down at my grocer's.

What about blades? any recommendations? I've heard Shark is good, but I've been using Sword.
  • I'm used Merkur, Feather, and whatever my friend found at Wal-Mart when he bought his. The not Wal-Mart ones were more or less just as good, but I'd go with with Sword, it's got the best name.

Blades will all differ from brand to brand, and what's good for me or Ruffas might be different to what's best for you, but they're cheap enough that you can afford to check a few different ones out. I use Wilkinson Swords at the moment, but I prefer Merkur or Feather blades, they work best with my razor and with my skin.

As for creams and soaps, I've been using Proraso Sapone da Barba while on the move, it's pretty good. At home, I'll use Taylors (Rose), or Mitchell's Wool Fat, but Tabac and Gentlemen's Best Signature Line are also fantastic.
  • What I really need is a variety pack of blades and soaps so I can figure out what's the best for my skin.
  • Maybe try to find a real barbershop what does shaves local to you and see if they can help you out?
  • This is an excellent idea, however I do live in the Information Age and have access to multiple computing devices. All the information I could ever want on the topic is a mere Google search away.

Also, Amazon has a ton of awesome reviews and I think I found a good variety pack of razor blades. Now I just need to see if I can get a sampler of soaps.
  • Wasn't talking about information gathering, but experimentation. If you can find one that does shaves, they'd be likely to have some different soaps and maybe razors you could try, but a variety pack would be a good way to go.
