    Full Moon

Here's one I did earlier. Some amateur astrophotography.

7 pictures stitched together in photoshop. Canon 550d + t ring adapter + celeston 114lcm telescope.

With the weight of the camera hanging off the telescope, I pretty much had to manually align each shot, physically holding the alignment while tracking the moon manually to take the required shots.

Wasn't easy, specially with the freezing cold night numbing my hands.

Totally worth it though. It's amazing just viewing the moon through the telescope. To get pictures of the outer planets and nebula, will need significant telescop upgrades. That's for another day hopefully.

    Macro Spider

Some more amateur photography. 550d + 18-55mm lens + cheap ebay extension tube

Not an easy shot to take, but pretty much the best my lens can do. With macro photography things move out of focus or out frame extremely quickly. The amount of light you need to produce a noiseless shot is more than there is naturally available in alot of cases. unless it's just midday and no clouds.

In short, need a macro lens + a flashgun.

    OH MY MONEH!

  • You know, the first time I tried to video the moon I was surprised at how fast that fucker moves. Holy shit.
  • I almost literally had to hold the telescope like a canon under my arm to keep it tracked.

Setting the motors to track it automatically, I AINT GOT NO TIME fo DAT.
  • Have fun with this one kids. Took it with GoPro.

    I've seen him wear less.

  • Jugglers' Calendar 2014 - photos by Luke Burrage: Cover

Here's a Christmas/Holiday gift for all the jugglers out there! Photography is one of my favourite hobbies, and jugglers on stage are some of my favourite subjects. So like I did for 2011 and 2012, I made a calendar for 2014 using some of my favourite photos from juggling conventions and shows in 2013 (though a few shots are from 2012, as they went unused due to me not making a calendar for 2013).

Download the high resolution versions for printing here: Jugglers' Calendar 2014 - photos by Luke Burrage (37.4 mb zip file). The resolution should be 300 dpi when printed at A4 size.

I have no permissions from any of these jugglers, so while I’m sure they wouldn’t mind you printing out a calendar, don’t try to make money with these images or anything like that. I released all these photos on my blog under a creative commons 3.0 license, which means no commercial use without my permission. And to get my permission, email me here: luke@juggler.net

    Damn!

    What's up?
  • I think that was his way of noting how awesome those photos are.
  • I thought Rym saw Voldemort in September.
  • What's the gig with the big S-shaped things in June? I've no doubt it's impressive, but I'm buggered if I can see how it'd go from a picture.
  • They are called Buugeng. They are not impressive, just very pretty. Or pretty when performed well. It looks a bit like this:

  • Oooh, I was imagining throws and catches, kinda like clubs that might have your eye out, but you're right, that is quite pretty. Watching a few other videos, they look really good when they use striped ones, too.
  • Very impressive! I may print these out as I know a few printers who owe me some favors. Also? Damn. Dat April. :-D~
  • Jugglers have the best looking nerds.
  • Some sexy people in there to be sure. I don't quite see the BGG calendar being anywhere as enticing as yours. ;-)
  • I watched all 9 episodes of the Smash Brothers documentary, and for me the saddest part was when all the guys went outside to play tag. It was presented as a high point, but for me it just brought into focus how little anyone thought of any kind of physical activity. If it hadn't have been featured so prominently, I could imagine that instead of sitting in front of screens all the time, there were more people like PC Chris, who had any control of their bodies what so ever.
  • They all had ridiculous control of their fingers, which is indeed a body part.
  • Control of their limbs, then. And I wouldn't say all hd control of their fingers, as illustrated by M2K's fingers still moving in his sleep.

    M2K is a special case.

You may actually be surprised to know that a lot of the pros do get a ton of exercise. The top players of the big sponsored games usually have some kind of regimen that also helps to keep their mind sharp and their body healthy. You just don't see it as much in the games that have less money involved because the players have to go to work or school, and then have to game the rest of the time to stay competitive.
  • I'm not surprised. It was more to do with the presentation of that segment in the documentary. "And we all, like, went outside in the, you know, the sun!" As though going outside was something unusual.
  • Going outside is dangerous! It burnssss ussss, and most of the time you can't find any power outlets!

I need to exercise more. Going to try to use a PE requirement to encourage me to start lifting next month.
  • Getting better at taking photos of lightning. The weather helped. I really just need a better vantage point than my balcony.

    You could rent a helicopter?

    You could rent a helicopter?

Pretty sure that's a good way to get killed. Also, taking long exposure photos from a helicopter will be ridiculously difficult and require some crazy stabilization in addition to a very stable helicopter, and during a storm...
  • Cool shot. How long was the exposure?

It was bulb mode. You hold the shutter open until lightning strikes, then you let go. According the exif data, I held it open for 18 seconds that time.
