I pre-registered, so I'll be there and meet up with you guys as soon as I get there. Should I meet you at the hotel?

    Thursday afternoon.

I'm in. When would said meet-up occur? Before the con on Thursday, or during it?
  • Probably thursday.

    What games?
  • I have Settlers, Baccus Banquet, Chez Geek, and Chrononats. Anyone else who has games is welcome to bring theirs, tho.

I know what I'm learning to play ^_^
  • If I'm able to join I'll bring Tsuro, Fluxx and We Didn't Playtest This.

    TSURO!!! YAY!!!!!
  • The coolest game I have is Curses... and that's just a game that makes people look stupid...
  • I have a mission for you. If you feel strongly about Otakon mailing the badges, be sure to say as much at the con feedback session. This, I have discovered, seems to be the only place your voices will be heard. Spread the word. If you want the badges mailed, tell them then. Even if other people have already raised the point.

They're not mailing badges at Otakon anymore either? Anime Expo is tomorrow, and they decided about a month ago that they're not mailing badges this year either. So lame.

Problem is, if the two largest conventions in the US aren't mailing badges, they may ignore the demand for it on the "no one else is doing it, so why should we" principle.

    Otakon has never mailed badges.

PAX, Comic-Con, they all mail the badges. They have never not mailed them.

I meant anime conventions. But AX has always done it as well. It's just that the price of a badge is higher than ever, which makes it ridiculous that they wouldn't mail badges this year.

The New York Comic Con/New York Anime Festival mails them now too.

Didn't they always? You can even buy badges to them at NYC comic shops.

I can't recall. We never buy badges for any conventions (except MoCCA I suppose, but we have free press passes if we want them, we just never actually sign up for them). I honestly have no idea.
  • Climbing out of my lurking hole to say that my bus tickets are non-refundable, so I pretty much have to come to Otakon. Should still be a good time, though, I hope. I'm at least looking forward to catching Home Made Kazoku's concert and meeting up with whoever does show up.

Also, just so people know, I still have room left for one more person in my hostel room. So far it's myself and YoshoKatana, and I need one more person to fill the booking as I originally made it. It's super cheap and an awesome place to stay! The full info is still posted here if you're curious. Reply, whisper, or e-mail me if you want in.

I'd be interested in getting in on the board gaming get-together, too, by the way! I don't have many games that are easy to tote around, but I do have Guillotine, at least. Would that interest anyone?
  • I'm going as well, but I'm going to be in the group who drives early in the morning Friday and will arrive in Baltimore around 7 or 8 AM. (I'm only paying for Friday and Saturday) So, I'm willing to share my room to anyone who might be interested. Going without plans to meet with friends will make this powerfully lame.
  • I think this will be the first real test of Ivytalk, which seems like the perfect thing for a con situation. Here's the FRC Forum Otakon ivytalk group room chat whatever thing. I figure we can use this for planning awesome things during the con.
  • I enjoy anime, just not enough of an anime geek to warrant going to a con, but I came across this and figured I should share. With all the discussion of people potentially not attending Otakon, this could be a good alternative. It's a mini-con run in NYC the same weekend as Otakon:

  • HEURG. I just remembered it's in less than a month! Yikes... I gotta make me some monies.
  • No vuvuzelas at Otakon.
Hahahaha. They must have caught wind of how much of a nuance they were at AX.
  • So, after my brother's extensive drama, a deal with my mom, and a lot of last-minute planning on my part, I am apparently attending Otakon, probably as Ness one day and T.K. the other day. This does mean I will be waiting in the Friday morning registration line, and I will also not be able to buy anything besides food. I'm thinking getting there around 7-8AM Friday morning to start waiting in line. Any suggestions?

    A forumite meetup?

Almost definitely, yeah. I meant more about waiting in line Friday morning, though.
