So, after my brother's extensive drama, a deal with my mom, and a lot of last-minute planning on my part, I am apparently attending Otakon, probably as Ness one day and T.K. the other day. This does mean I will be waiting in the Friday morning registration line, and I will also not be able to buy anything besides food. I'm thinking getting there around 7-8AM Friday morning to start waiting in line. Any suggestions?
A forumite meetup?
Almost definitely, yeah. I meant more about waiting in line Friday morning, though.
I was planting the seed that would hopefully germinate into actual planning...
It was assumed that there would be a meet-up anyway, but now that it has been explicitly mentioned, we might as well start talking about it. It'll be a bit hard to get a specific time set now, though, as we don't know what he schedule is going to be like at the moment.

Well...I think the best thing to do at this point is explain what our definitive or tentative plans are at Otakon so we can plan accordingly.
I'm going to be sharing a room with Ryan (Li_Akahi), Katie (Anrild), and a bunch of their awesome friends at the Hilton. I've been told they are going to arrive Thursday so they can stand in the pre-reg line to get their badges early before. I've ok'd everything with my boss so I can probably come down around Thursday as well. I'll probably spend a majority of the time with them, but any of you can join us (this isn't anything pretentious like me giving permission, this is a request ^_^).
We'll definitely be hanging out around the Inner Harbour on Thursday, so people are more Han welcome to join in on any Shenanigans. Anrild and I will be doing cosplay photo shoots on Friday at 6 and Saturday at 10 AM, so those times are bad for hanging out.

I think we should organize particular breaks like whenever we get Lunch or Dinner. That'll be the best time to bond and get something in our stomachs. Like possibly having meet-ups during Thursday Evening and Friday Morning, but having a 100% confirmed meeting somewhere at the con around Noon and getting lunch.

This! I need to eat, and at the very least I need to eat every day at around noon because of medication. I'd love to have a group of people to eat with, so this would be excellent. I'll be rolling into Baltimore at about 6:30 on Thursday via train and will most likely be starving, so maybe we can arrange to get dinner together on Thursday?
Also, as has been mentioned, Li and I will be busy at 6:00 pm on Friday and 10:00 am on Saturday (for pictures!). Our Friday might be sort of messy as well, due to weird hotel-switching circumstances. I personally wouldn't count on us being available for most of Friday morning to early afternoon, just in case.
And AWESOME you get to come, Axel! I enjoyed hanging out with you last year! Hopefully this year there won't be any vomit-flavored bagels to ruin an otherwise great day.
Awesome. I will probably not be able to do large-scale Thursday hang-out type stuff, since I'm not pre-registered, and I'm hoping my Friday morning won't be completely wrecked by hanging out in the Registration line. Matt, weren't you in the registration line last year? What time did you get there? I know you said it took you a few hours to get through or something...

Um...I actually cannot remember. I think it was in the afternoon or maybe around Noon. Regardless it was something around an hour and a half of waiting.

Okay. Hopefully if I get there sometime before 9AM, I can actually not wait more than a half an hour so in line once it actually starts moving. 7-8AM should be fine then.
Also, if Scrym should decide to attend, then I say we should obviously pick a few of their panels (Are you guys even doing any? I thought you were) for some large-scale meetups, and then probably go out to eat after those.

I was in the line last year, for about that long. It was definitely tolerable. You'll hate the heat and standing, but you can chat with some of the con-goers already and get to see many of the awesome costumes instantaneously. And I went while not having an mp3 player or file playing phone to kill time. 2008 and 2009 had nearly identical numbers of attendees, so I don't think we'll have much change overall.

I hope you guys come, it would be great to see you all again.
Oh, we have approved panels, and we're also Otakon Staff. But, it's so disorganized, we simply may not be able to justify attending: it's so much of a hassle, and they have yet to tell us anything about the current state of the schedule. Scott already is likely unable to attend at all due to the late hour, and my personal deadline is getting very, very near.
More importantly, the (good) situation with PAX/NYAF/NYCC programming is escalating rapidly. We're on track to be bringing our A+ programming to these cons, well above and beyond even what we have done to date.
Well, I'll be there Thursday, but not until the evening it seems. I'll be able to make a dinner or two, but I also gotta practice a panel with my co-panelist.
Has anyone heard anything of some kind of a schedule? I'm wondering if I need to take Friday off.
It's not done yet...
*angry sad pissed face*
But, I hope to see you guys there. With the ways things are it's understandable to skip it.
You know what? Thinking about it, I'm totally going to steal Scott's policy of no longer respecting the picture space of anyone unreasonably blocking the hallway. If you're in my way, I'll get in your way.

I even started doing it. It's made anime cons much more enjoyable.
As a cosplayer, I have a feeling I won't do that. I will try and move to a good space if anyone wants my picture, but...I won't walk in anyone's way. Unless I really, really need to.
That aside, today's the deadline for us bailing on Otakon. There's still no schedule, and it's way too close to the go-date to reasonably expect that there won't be issues. We'll announce our bailing officially probably this afternoon.

What is the cosplay in question?
Right now, the plan is for my improved Ness costume (better than last years) on Friday, and my T.K. from Digimon 02 costume minus me dying my hair blond on Saturday.

There is temporary hair dye you know, right?
I know, it's what I used last time. But I got a haircut, so my hair is too short to be seen through my hat now, plus I don't want to spend the money on more hair dye. The last time, it was also a pain to get out and got all over a lot of stuff.
Sadly, we have been forced to officially bail on Otakon 2010 as of this moment. We will announce it on the show, but we will not be attending in any capacity this year.

I haz a bummed, this is like the only con I can actually hang out after it's done. Fucking DC being so far from everything else. *shakes fist*
