Considering the G/S era was one of my favorites, and I just could not get through playing Soul Silver (terrible of me, I know), I wasn't very excited about B&W until I saw some reviews. I'm trying to not spoil myself on the new pokemon, however -- I used to know all the new ones and their information before the game was even in my hands. For the first time in my life, I want to be surprised.
Aren't there a bunch of other error monsters you can get in the first one?
Yeah basically after you talked to a couple people and flew around a bit you'd go to the right side of cinnabar island and use surf up and down. After a while missingno would appear, but before that so would lots of other pokemon. If I remember correctly, leveling them up would reset them back to level 1, and what pokemon you would encounter was determined by what letters were in your player name. As a kid, the stuff was more fun than the actual game.

I've been doing that for a while now, too. Only 9 more days to go, I'm really excited! Gonna start with Oshawott.

I am also going to start with Oshawott, but that is because he is a samurai otter and therefore, awesome.

Exactly my plan as well - I really want to try and recapture as much of that magical feeling I got when my 8 year old self first played Pokemon Blue when it came out... I know it won't be perfect (this time I know how to buy Poke Balls! No more facing the Elite 4 with nothing but a level 86 Blastoise), but I'm just really, really excited about this clean slate. And three Oshawotts in a row makes me laugh a bit, as none of my friends want anything to do with it, yet I like it the best. Ah well - unite!
Ok. Annoying kid who claimed to only like the original Pokemon has been banned. People who say that- don't like Pokemon anymore. They grew out of it, or failed to realize it's true complexity. Pokemon fans hate people like this. You don't like Pokemon anymore. That's fine. But now that it's ironically cool, don't try coming in here, trying to impress us with your outdated knowledge. gah. 6 days left man. Oh my God. Dewott is a beast. Stunfisk too. Look at Stunfisk's face. "WHAT?! YEEEAAH! That's Right! I DON'T GIVE A FUCK."
I kinda want to get the new Pokemons because I know there will be non-stop PokePAX. However, I am sticking to my plan. I am waiting for the inevitable Pokemon Gray.

You could pick up Heart Gold or Soul Silver - they're my favorite of the games by far (and I've been playing from the beginning), a great mix of nostalgia and newness. Plus, the Pokewalker. I'm sure there will be other people at PAX with them this year, albeit not quite so ubiquitous as last year. Admittedly, you won't be able to directly battle/trade with Black and White people, but there will have to be some people with Gev IV still.

Re: No Grey: Could hold some water, they're probably going full steam ahead on getting everyone to forget the DS and move onto the 3DS.
I don't know much about Infrared Communication, but I'm assuming if they make a Pokemon Grey for the 3DS, that would allow it to connect with the DS B/W (assuming that 3DS games cannot connect to DS games).
I for one would be very sad if I waited a year to buy Pokemon Neutral and found out that Nintendo wasn't making a third game. That said, the rumor was probably started by and for trolls.

But, on the whole, I've not been excited since Silver.
