Warning: Mobs are on. It remains permanent day, though, so monsters will only spawn in deep, dark caves. Also, health does not regenerate anymore. Use food to heal yourself. Forge some swords. Make some armor. This shit just got real.
The beta update changed many things about how MC works. Since it came out, portals have been burning themselves out after a short time. Modders are working on a fix.
It's not like Jason's server is the only server on the block. I'm sure there are other servers were mobs are turned off. Or you could always start up your own server. There is always single player also.
WHY DID THEY PUT ALL THESE GOOMBAS IN MY MARIO GAME? NOW I CAN'T JUST RUN THROUGH ANYMORE.
More like, why does King Koopa randomly set my drawing on fire in Mario Paint? Better off with MS Paint.
It's hardly random. The server is modded to be daytime permanently, so there are no mobs on the surface at all. As long as you are in a lit place, there are no mobs. If your cave is lit, no mobs. There is no random burning. Creepers don't just explode unless you walk up to them and stand there like a dumbass.
As a matter of fact, it's kind of hard to find mobs. Destrucci and I went hunting last night in the deep, dark recesses of a huge cave system. We killed two skeletons and a zombie. OH NO, KOOPA EXPLODED ALL OVER MY FACE, WAAAAA.
I also went material mining the other day, and while excavating a stairway out, opened up a cavern full of skeletons, zombies, and creepers. /Home was never so useful.
Oh, by the way, whoever made the pathway/stairs out of Secondus towards The Freemines/Sky Castle/Cactus Coast area did a really nice job! I'm also super-impressed with whoever built the underwater tunnel off the coast in the same area. Nice work!
Hi! Could you please whitelist me? I'm Ganty. Woo.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to why -on my laptop- the browser version of minecraft runs perfectly for me, but the standalone exe only gets 5 or 6 fps? It's a Dell XPS 15 with an i5 460M processor, 1GB GT420M and 4GB of RAM. I fiddled a little bit with the graphics settings for java, turning vsync on and off, to no avail.

I can whitelist you when I get home. The first time you log on, it will be slow and choppy for a while because you'll be downloading everything. That's some 20,000 files across 30-40 MB. It will take a little time for you to catch up.
As for your framerate: I don't know what is happening. Is this happening only in single-player mode? Or only in multiplayer? Or both? Try setting your render distance to normal instead of far and see if that makes a difference. It honestly shouldn't -- your graphics card is a good one.
It happens in both single player and multiplayer, setting the render distance to tiny and the graphics to fast makes no odds, its baffling.
That's really peculiar. I have a very similar system and only get a second or so of lag when the game loads. Are your drivers/java up to date? Is there perhaps some program running interference?

Yeah, I can't think of anything other than the obvious. Also, are you running in full screen or windowed?
I actually never thought to press f11: it works perfectly in the browser version. In the exe the screen goes completely black and the sound still plays. Then when I exit fullscreen it does this.
When I tried to install the latest drivers the installer gave me an error: "This graphics driver could not find the compatible graphics hardware." Though other games have detected the card and its clearly on my device manager. I assume I'm probably being a dolt but these are definitely the drivers for "GeForce 8M, 9M, 100M, 200M, 300M-series, and 400M notebook GPUs. " http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-260.99-whql-driver-uk.html

You should get the latest drivers automatically from Windows Update, not from the nvidia web site.
Also, check with Dell support. They might have a patch to fix wonky video issues. It looks like several related machines have had problems and required a software patch.

That sounds pretty likely. It's definitely a software issue, whatever it is.

Really? I was always under the impression that the nVidia site would be more up-to-date than Windows Update, since it's straight from the manufacturer.

I didn't say it was more up to date. I said that's what you should do.
Either method is fine. Being able to bundle the Nvidia updates into automatic updates (As opposed to the optional ones.) would be nice but it's all or nothing when it comes to optional updates.
Drat....it appears my basement casts a shadow big enough to spawn a TON of enemies right under it, need to brave it when numbers are low and torch it to hell

See, stuff like that is the fun part of Minecraft for me. A little more emergent story.
Well, I think I'm going to reserve the last floor of my Ode to Freud to make an monster-battle arena, I need a ton of obsidian and some pressure-plate activated torches, but it'll be so worth it. XD
I downloaded drivers for my graphics card from the Dell site and it works perfectly now, although fullscreen still freaks it out, but I can just maximise the window. Cest la vie.
I just built a huge cart track on my server, I don't really like the way minecart boosters work, it's really odd, and for some reason the cart goes way faster with people in it. It can't make its own way around without someone sitting there. I tried filling the minecarts with pigs but that didn't really help.

Facefucked by a Creeper...good song title.

P.S., That's what she said.
I found three creepers alongside my staircase as I was going down, a little to late to dodge them though.
Oh well, only true complain I have is that there's is now more lag, but besides that it's just a change in difficulty, no biggie.
