  • This is why I'm not letting my Evangelion Platinum out of my house ever. In related news, what's going to happen to the American distribution rights for Bebop now that Bandai's gone under? That's another one we've got on lockdown.
So, you are telling me that I should have bought Eva when I had the chance 2 years ago when it was like 30 bucks, and that there is little to no chance that we will get a remastered HD version. Well, that sucks!

  • I watched the first episode of Hare+Guu Deluxe today. It felt good to be back in the jungle!
  • I made it through Endless Eight. Then, when I was through, I didn't even continue. Endless Eight was exhausting, and I went into it a lot more optimistic.
Oh god, Endless Eight. I never looked up spoilers and literally watched through all eight with my full attention, thinking, "CERTAINLY this is the last episode they do this with... " Oh god! I love the "summer fun" episodes but dear lorddddd. That is the reason I will not buy the 2nd season on DVD.

Been watching the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 OVAS. They are holding up so far with the animation quality is good. Same general story as the original but feels fresh.

    Plus space submarines!

Not to mention the score is great!

Which brings one to the second problem of the added episodes to Haruhi. The best addition is the single non-arc episode that appears first in chronological order, leaving you with 13 episodes worth of 2 terrible arcs. One being the 8 episode long pallete swap of a story that wasn't meant to be that fucking long (iirc), and the other being the arc documenting the filming of episode 00. Chronological order was already a terrible way to watch before the extra episodes, then they made it the weaker part 14 episodes weaker! It takes an unholy beast to derive enjoyment out of that half even if you aren't waiting 2 months for a new episode.
  • I feel like Haruhi Suzumiya could have done so much better in the second season as well. It has endless potential, why did they mangle it like they did? TOO MUCH potential, maybe?

I watched both Bonjour Galaxy Express 999 and Adieu Galaxy Express 999. They're both way too episodic, but the first one gets a pass since it's almost directly adapting the tv show into movie form. Excellent soundtracks on both, and filled with likable side-characters, though! Both good!

We'll get it some day. There's only so long Eva can go without a distributor. The Platinum edition specifically, however, is becoming a collectors item and even once there's a new release will be at a higher price point.

  • Just watched the first 4 episodes of Hare+Guu Final. It lost a lot of the energy that Deluxe had, but I still really like it.
  • Finished Hare+Guu Final. Good stuff.

Also finished Angel Beats. That show was like a rollercoaster of enjoyment. A rollercoaster that ended at the bottom of a drop.
  • Finished watching From the New World. I couldn't wait another day to watch it. Damn, man. That was a great series. Not just a good series, but a great one. I will say that it's my top show of 2012. 2013's just lucky that it's young, or I'd hand the strap to Shin Sekai Yori for this year as well.

I wanted to like Angel Beats, I really did. But I forced myself through the entire show because, dammit, I had to check it off my anime list. I did not care for it at all. :/

Once Oreshura and Kotoura-san finish up on Crunchyroll I'm going to start Shin Sekai Yori. I want something that isn't such a disappointment as Kotoura-san felt for me. (I mean, god, that OPENING FIFTEEN MINUTES. ... Followed by... nothing).

I think the biggest problem with it was that they wanted to try to please a whole bunch of people at once. I really only cared for the casual character interactions and their back-stories. I didn't like the action, and the 'musical' element of it was just dumb and in the way. The ending was also totally rushed and just dumb.
  • I want something that isn't such a disappointment as Kotoura-san felt for me. (I mean, god, that OPENING FIFTEEN MINUTES. ... Followed by... nothing).
Dude, you can just, you know, stop. There's no mandate for you to finish things you don't like, especially when you no longer get enjoyment out of it. Unless of course you're a masochist.

I actually liked the ending, it felt nice and resolved most things.
  • I think I will watch Nichijou next.

Welp I know what I'm watching next, too.
  • Still watching Sailor Moon. I'm starting to really not like Usagi. She's so ditzy and generic, and she always has to be bailed out by either Luna or the other Sailors. I don't know why they don't kick her off the team.

In other Ikuhara related news, what are peoples thoughts on Penguinbear? All I can say is that the Anime Boston AMV Contest 2015 winner is going to be a Brave/Penguinbear trailer.

I'm creating a panel entitled "Legitimately Worst Anime Ever Made". I come to you forum, please name me what anime you believe is the worst ever.

This has to be anime that fails on every conceivable level. It has to suck in character design, animation, story, characters, and more to fit the billing of "Legitimately Worst Anime Ever Made".

Odin, M.D. Geist, and Crystal Triangle are already on the list, so don't name those.

  • Rave Master was pretty god awful along with Elfen Lied, or at least the first 15 minutes of those shows. Other than that, any hentai, moe, or shonen show would be my go to for horrible animes.

Kanokon is the worst recent anime I can think of. Ugly character design, cringe-inducing fanservice and the plot is basically about how a 400-year-old virgin demon girl wants to rape a little boy for no explained reason and they accept it because "Oh, they have a bond beyond fate, etc. etc"

Hentai is hentai. Being pornography alone doesn't make it bad. I also don't know why all shonen shows would be considered bad.

I am watching through the truly amazing, truly imaginative anthology anime film known as Genius Party. Each segment is done by a different, famous director. I'll post my thoughts about each segment as I finish them.

The first segment was called "Genius Party" and was directed by Atusko Fukushima (who had a small role in Robot Carnival) and I honestly cannot describe what it is about. Instead I'll use this picture to give you an idea of what you'll see.
    It was okay.

The second segment was called "Shanghai Dragon" and was directed by Shoji Kawamori (Escaflowne, Macross Frontier, and AKB0048). It is basically an anime version of Harold and the Purple Crayon taking place in China along with giant mecha attacks and him transforming tokusatsu hero and kicking ass. Also the ending is pretty unforgettable. I don't want to say anymore than that because I would spoil it. It was pretty great.

So far, so good. More to come.

Hello Kitty Furry Tale Theater might qualify. But I love it anyway.

You have named one of two titles in the Geist series. The second being M.D. Geist II which features the Count from Gankutsuou dubbed M.D. Krauser. It also features a narm death of a boy being "accidentally" gored by a spear in the hands of Krauser.
