I really really tried to get into Girls and Panzer. The absurdity wasn't enough by itself. There was just no meat to it.
Then again, the same is really true of YuriKuma Arashi, but the absurdity is dialed up to 11 so it kinda works...
Sha-bada-doo.
YuriKuma Arashi isn't just absurd. Its got substance. Complex characters and intriguing plot with a high likelihood of a terrible secret of space. The absurdity is just the backdrop of a genuinely deep show.
At least, after four episodes, that's what it looks like.
My friend and I like Girls Und Panzer. I because the student council forced a girl with obvious combat related PTSD into the same situation that gave her the trauma. I also found the reveal of the city on an aircraft carrier to be super stupid.
My friend, I think because she just like the idea of school girls in tanks.
But yea, not allot of meat, is a good way to put it.
I'll need to go back and watch the last two eps of YuriKuma that I sort of half slept through. Maybe I missed something (probably did.) There's undeniable second meanings to everything, but I dunno if I'd say deep. At least in the first two eps.
You guys are making me want to give Girls Und Panzer another try now...
I'm really enjoying Your Lie in April. I don't even mind the flagrant use of Anime Girl Syndrome for the blonde love interest. (Probably because she's actually a pretty compelling character herself and not just an object of affection for the protag.)
Yuri Kuma so far, in comparision to Utena and Penguindrum, is...shallower in its use of metaphor and narrative, not in a bad way of course, its still a good show, and I say this only because it is in comparison to the others. If there was a scale of Shallow to Dense, I would have it as
Thursdays are great for anime. Shirobako, Your Lie in April and ... Saekano? (guilty pleasure).
I legit like Saekano. The first episode was super pervy, but it did so with a point to be made. Most every episode so far has had at least one scene that's a commentary on porny anime and the otaku who love them.
Is Your Lie in April on a Thursday schedule? I never figure it out. I always just check from time to time until I see one.
How similar is it to Nodame Cantabile?
Only music, then nothing else. I would say Nodame Cantabile is a lighthearted romantic comedy and very little drama.
Your Lie in April has lots of comedy, but also full on drama. The type of drama that hit you in the face so hard that you cry, and you like it even though it hurts.
I also like the character designs a little bit better on Your Lie in April, and the music. But then again I am a fan of Goose House:
Watched Cowboy Bebop: Knockin on Heaven's Door last night. Loved the beginning, really had me interested, but the rest of the movie was a bore. Literally fell asleep. *sigh*
The show wasn't that hot either. I'd give it an 8/10
Please don't do that, just don't. Don't use arbitrary number/number and pretend it has some actual meaning. Instead either use words and sentences to convey your thoughts and feelings about the subject or don't bother saying anything at all as random numbers on a random scale mean different things to everyone and thus are meaningless.

The arbitrary number is a simplified way to express my appreciation for the thing, than type out an essay into the reasoning.
You can vaguely gauge how I make my judgement simply based on the increments. It's not out of 100/ 5/ 3/ 2. Out of 10 is what I chose.
If you don't like my numbers, that's fine. Cowboy Bebop still wasn't all that entertaining.
But you are giving mixed messages here. You say it's not that hot, or it "wasn't all that entertaining", but the number value you chose is pretty high. 8/10 is 80/100 is 4/5, that's way above average, such a big number for something you seem to be so lukewarm for.
If 5 is neutral/ indifferent, 0 is bad/ shite, 8 is more or less good. If I give something a 9 or higher, that's the all rounders.
With Cowboy Bebop I can appreciate the themes, the art, the music, the design I really do like those aspects. However it ultimately wasn't all that entertaining for me. Therefore not worth a 9.
I do not expect a simple yes or no answer to that, although even that is better than x/xx, but more of a "yes, but", "yes and", "no, but" or "no and" -answer.
And see there, you can use words. Was that so god damn hard?
It's funny Dazzle because I would consider a 8/10 to be awesome, I think there might be one or two anime that actually hit a 9 or 10 in terms of quality. So I would consider an 8 to be pretty great. So that's probably why saying "not that great" 8/10 is strange.

I think there's a lot of innuendo and metaphor, but I think it's pretty shallow. Maybe I'm too dopey to get it.

By the way the intro and ending of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Cruzaders they grow on you as time goes, specially the ending.

I'd give Attack on Titan a 9. To answer that defeats the purpose of granularity.
And see there, you can use words. Was that so god damn hard?
I still don't have a problem with numbers. It's a quick way to convey an opinion/ perspective (vague granted), the scrutiny can come afterwards.
