1.11 sticks rather closely to the original TV series. Some things look differently, but overall it's pretty close. It covers about the first 5 episodes or so. 2.22 is where it starts going in a different direction, with new characters and such. It still retains some elements from the TV series, but the plot is different. Of course the movies feature completely new animation. I don't think it's a replacement for the TV series, but it's a good substitute if you know what I mean.
I can't really judge the Rebuild movies yet, because they are incomplete. I will watch them when they come out. However, they've been good so far.
I really like the TV series and actually rewatched it a couple of months ago after being lucky enough to find a cheap box set second-hand on Amazon. That is however the problem with the series which kept me from buying it for a long time (I saw it before on fansubs): It's notoriously hard to find because the box sets which have been released are out of print and the ones you can find are often ridiculously overpriced.
As for D&R and EoE, I've completely skipped D&R since from what I can tell it doesn't offer me anything new. I've watched EoE, but the film is just completely bizarre and weird, impenetrable even. As such it has also been widely panned by critics and fans alike. I don't think you need to watch either.
So, if you want to see what Eva's about, just get the TV series somewhere you can find it and you should be fine.

There's some debate about that. And anything that Anno says on the topic seems to spur more debate, not less. Which might tell you more about the Eva fan community than about the product itself.
So, if you want to see what Eva's about, just get the TV series somewhere you can find it and you should be fine.

What more can you say that it's bad and people shouldn't watch it. Sounds like you want to hear that sort of thing and I think you're in the wrong place for that.
Kara no Kyoukai and Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is better than a lot of stuff you've called A, Scott. Give them a shot. Did you ever watch the new Birdy Decode? Or Seirei no Moribito is another one I think Rym told you to watch. That one is really good.

It looks like the version of robotech on hulu is the original source anime unedited with different dialog.
Masters/Southern Cross episode 2 has the full Dana Sterling shower scene.
Right now I'm watching SDF and it's funny how two shows that look the same are completely different because of dialog.
Anything that is called Robotech is not the original source anime. You clearly don't know the history of Robotech. I'm not going to type it, you can look it up yourself. All you need to know is that anything that is called Robotech is an abomination.
