Gaijin is not very perjorative or hostile, but it is quite othering.
Exactly -- it's the "othering" that my friends who've lived in Japan found frustrating. (Not that Japan has cornered the market on othering -- we've got plenty of that here in the good ol' US of A.)
(Does Vanilla poke Lou when I use his name here, or if I do this: @Dragonmaster Lou , or something else?)
No, thank god. It would be annoying as fuck, though nobody would be able to bother me with spam because I use so many handles everywhere.
I wonder what exactly it takes to get something into the "Notifications" column that I see when I go to my profile (ie, clicking my user name in the top nav bar). Of course, if I really cared deeply about this, I could probably just google the Vanilla documentation.
Watching Soul Eater. Five years ago, this would have been one of my favorite shows between Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and CC:S. Now, I suffer through it for the social currency.
Does Soul Eater actually get you some social currency? The part I've seen of the show was awesome mostly because of its style. Best seen in episode 1.
Kaiji season 2, now with 100% more ZAWA~
WHAT MADE YOU WAIT SO FUCKING LONG? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU FOR WAITING SO LONG. WHAT THE HELL SAIL! Enjoy the show. It's boss as you'd expect.
I also think Rym got a slightly different tourist experience because half the time we were with family and did everyday stuff. I was also there to translate for him.
Anyway, back to anime, the problem is not defining art by time period and location, but more that stupid fans make snap judgements based solely on said catagories. Also? Most OEL "manga" that insist on being called such are derivative and crappy. They ape surface aesthetics without knowlege of the cultural forces and storytelling strategies that shape the comics they are mimicking. The only reason most of them want to be called mangaka is because they and others look down on comic art from elsewhere and want to differentiate themselves. I want them to embrace their own individual style and life experience and proudly make comics!
Didn't they already address stupid people? They're stupid, end of discussion. Basing anything off of plain stupidity from stupid people is just as stupid.

It does. It shouldn't, but it does. I does have the fantastic style you say, but the characters are cliche and the writing reeks of typical-shounen-action/comedy.

Yeah, it was great. The last gamble tried my patience just a bit, but it happens. I waited so long originally because I was waiting for the whole second season to finish, and then I sorta forgot about it.
Ah, a good time to chime in. Saw the hour finale of Legend of Korra. It goes without saying that it was really good. Can't wait to see Uncle Bumi in action.

If you're going to address me by my various handles, at least be all inclusive.
Those are all the ones I know. I'm a bit of a newfag.
Then surprise, just "Nine" was never one of them. I might be wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure. I have also been known as the ALF, AFA and OMG of these forums. Character limits kept me from true glory of course, but at least I tried.
We've called him Nine, but I'm pretty sure his username was only ever "nineless," among dozens and dozens of other ones. Also WOAH-OH-OH-AH-AH-AH-AAAA-HA-AH-AH-AH, and the like.
I was never gonna type WOAH-OH-OH-AH-AH-AH-AAAA-HA-AH-AH-AH (I'm currently copy-pasting it), Nine just seemed easier. And it's what everyone else said.
Holy crap, Ring ni Kakero might not be as good as Hajime no Ippo. However, it can be considered as the Getter Robo of boxing, and that is good enough for me.

At least I never was a Jason. Or an Andrew.
Nineless more or less stuck only because it was the most sane of all his usernames.

You lot are just lazy and against change! Adapt or perish!
Wait, why would you NOT fully type out the greatest tribute name to the greatest youtube video? It's also where I got my steam avatar from and haven't changed it since.
Back from the theater now. I really liked both movies quite a bit. I honestly wish Ghibli did more real world stuff and not just fantasy all the time. Granted neither movie has any real action to speak of, they're more along the lines with Makoto Shinkai's stuff, but cute and funny instead of sad and depressing. Ocean Waves especially was fantastic. It's nice to see that some people in anime do actually know how to make high school relationships in a movie interesting and somewhat realistic.
