  • I actually really like Snake. And by "like" I mean "like to run away from people and constantly shoot missals at them like an asshole with." My friend always hides and shoots arrows at everyone else during four player brawl with Link, and now I have a way to combat that. Also, how do I get the cardboard box?

It's one of the taunts, I believe.

When I tried shielding and saw that he didn't hide in a box, I bawww-ed.
  • You know, this game is really good for doubles (2 vs 2 fights). You guys should definitely try this; you'll be surprised at how strategic doubles fights can get in this game.
  • I played online last night, and it seems kind of hit or miss. Originally it wasn't working well at all, but then we tried again later and it worked fine. Also discovered that playing on a large map (the Zelda Melee one,) where one person is Snake, and two people are Pit, means that the match will last 20 minutes, because no one moves. Everyone just shoots at each other from as far away as they can.

This doesn't happen if there is a really good player involved.

Those people suck. So do you if you took part in the camping.
  • I did, but only when I it made sense to. I mean it started off normal, but then as the match went on and people got spread out it was really the only option since it was that, or try and get across the map to them and get shot up by them the whole way.

You know there's a dodge button right?

Who were you? If you were Pit, you should have just ran up to Snake and Angel Ringed (side-B) his ass! That would have stopped the camping very quickly.

How skilled were the people you were playing with?

Either way, if you were playing as Pit you could probably jump or use the Wings of Icharus (up-B) to dodge all of Snake's missiles. Even if you didn't know how to air dodge, that would have been a sufficient way to dodge the missiles as they would turn slower than you could move (I would imagine).

  • If you were Pit you can just fire arrows and arc them around obstacles.

I'm liking this game. I can't decide which is better, using the Classic Controller or the GameCube Controller. If I had a Wavebird I would probably just use that.

So far I have unlocked Marth, Luigi, Ness and Ganondorf. The wi-fi battles I have played have all been fine (I do play in the early morning before work when kids are in school). As for adventure mode, damn that thing takes forever! I think I have logged in 5 hours and not reached 30% completion yet.
  • I was Snake, so I was setting traps and trying to entice the Pits into them, as well as letting the Pits fight it out and attacking them from a distance. And yes I know there is a dodge button, but you can't dodge often in a row.

And I was playing with Scott Ramsoomair of VGCats and Shawn Handyside of Staccato (who brought Brawl to Katsucon this year.)
  • I've unlocked everyone except Wolf so far.

Which method did you use? Getting them in your party in SE or by number of brawls?

I ended up just sucking it up and finishing SE. After that the next three characters can easily be acquired in less than half an hour.

As soon as you get about 75% of SE done you will have most of the characters. I think it is a less tedious way of unlocking the characters than the number of Brawls or Classic Mode methods.
  • You can unlock Ganandorf by beating classic mode on Hard level with Link or Zelda. The alternative for him is much more SE...

I don't know how I unlocked Luigi or Ness. I guess they came about by brawling a lot. Same with Marth, I think I unlocked him before starting the SE.
  • You can always unlock the people the cheap way: set the stock to 1 and jump off the edge. One of my friends did that, because he's lazy and didn't want to play through SSE. I don't have the patience.
SSE wasn't bad, until the last level, where you're kept in a constant state of confusion for 3 hours. But it was all worth it, now that I have Sonic.

    How's Toon Link?

The same as regular Link except lighter and perhaps a little faster. Oh, and cuter. Cuter is always important.

Yup, especially to Nintendo. It's a trade off, you get cute characters, while you get shit for Wifi. Must be their philosophy.
  • I finally found a copy of the game today, and I just played it for like an hour. I like it a lot so far, that fist cut scene was fucking epic. It was a little hard to get used to the controls at first, but I'll get used to it in no time. I also tried the online, no lag for me, but I got my ass kicked.

He's Young Link from Melee with a new character model. Simple as that.

  • So...when are we going to start swapping Friend Codes?

So...when are we going to start swapping Friend Codes?
I will post mine this weekend. Oh, and Pokemon Trainer is amazing (especially when using Charizard)!
EDIT: I would actually rank the Pokemon as follows, best to least best (as all of them are good): Charizard, Ivysaur, and Squirtle.

As soon as there is an IDShare for it? I just put mine up in my profile for now.
  • I thought it'd be all sold out by now, but I went to Best Buy and they had five copies. Ike and Pit are my men, since Ike is just sick awesome and Pit is annoying as hell. Olimar isn't bad, he's just the new Ness: you've got to be good to play well with him, but if you are, he's great. He seems better on 2v2 matches. My biggest letdowns are Diddy and Zero Suit Samus (and Olimar to a lesser extent).

As for the SE, I don't think it's that bad, but I've only played 30 min. of it. We'll see how it goes.
  • I got the chance to play SSBB yesterday at a friend's, and I think I've decided that my favorite character to play with is Olimar. We had a 4-way going, and I would just take olimar and spam Pikmin into the middle of the fray. It was great. Pokemon trainer is a disappointment for me. It is not enjoyable to play as, and feels gimped (to me at least).

Also, the final smash for Olimar rocks, and Pit's is annoying until you start dodging it, which becomes easy with practice.
